For all the "woodenness" claims about the NASBU , I think it's English is better than the ESV's . And yes , I do think the ESV has been over-hyped .

I've been exchanging several emails with Dr. Wallace on translation issues and he got me rethinking the NASB.
If I were to leave the NASB, I'll bypass both the ESV and the HCSB and go for the NET. Here's why:
1. The NET is a great mediating Bible: a balance between the formal and dynamic approaches.
2. It renders doulos and its cognates as "slaves" and so on.
3. It renders adelphoi as "brothers and sisters" instead of the masculine "brothers."
4. It does really great with the conjunctions and particles.
5. Then the added bonus of the great footnoting.

The NET is very good on a number of fronts . But there are several versions which occupy that sweet spot between formal and functional .

The point of this thread was that everyone will like a different translation based on their preferences...right?
Thus, I prefer the NIV because I grew up with it and memorized Scripture using it. Next, according to my preferences, would be the NASB, NRSV, and TNIV.
However, my real preference, given enough time, is to translate on my own from the best Greek text that we have, the USB's Greek 4th edition (which is, again, only my opinion).

I'm stuck with my NASB.
I really like the HCSB. I spent sometime with it for the last two days, but I'm waiting for the revision next year---maybe that might just cut me loose from the NASB.
I thought the NET would, but no.
I'm really impressed with the HCSB's readability and accuracy. :thumbs:
