To Whom Does A Pastor Turn To Be Pastored?

I have a wonderful older pastor friend who I consider my pastor. He lives in another state, but he is also jsut a phone call away. We talk about twice or so a month.

Our Director of Missions (an SBC thing) is also a good ear.

Surely there is someone in your area who will invest some time in you. Please know that I'll be praying for God to provide someons.

 

Each time I went to a new pastorate, I found an older, secure member of the church I fellowshipped with one day a week. I soon learned I could confide in him, pray together and just plain "get the load off".

I also found the local golf course, paid my green fees and just walked the course talking to the trees!!!!!! The physical activity and the solace was on that course, even though I don't play golf.

Then, there must be pastors within reach in whom you could confide,,they don't have to be Baptist. They too would prolly like to get "the load off" in confidence.

I agree with the DOM idea if you are part of a Southern Baptist congregation. Our local DOM often tells me "remember, i work for you...you don't work for me"; and he is sincere about it. At my previous place of service i did often find a ear from the Associate DOM because he was once on staff at the church i served and understood the situation i was in.

If you have a mentor in your life who is a pastor, that is always a great place to turn. My college mentor died a few years back, and since then i have constantly been on the lookout for someone who might be willing to invest time, love, energy and prayer into me. A previous pastor from seminary has often taken that roll on.

If you need someone to talk to ASAP, i would consider calling the pastoral help line at Focus on the Family. Their website is parsonage.org and they are more than willing to talk, pray, send you items that might help as well as follow up with you. I took advantage of this ministry last year and they were truly a blessing to me. :godisgood:
