Toby Keith RIP

May God comfort his friends and loved ones.

 

He has it a long time. I thought he had recovered from it.

 

I go to Meeting Of The Minds every year and, one year, he showed up unannounced to perform.

I had gone out into Key West to see a friend's band at another location, but Toby came and hung out with several people in our club. They said he couldn't have been nicer or friendlier.

Flash forward a couple of years, and we've gotten to know Toby's right hand man, Scotty Emerick, pretty well. Also a very nice guy.

 

He fought a good fight. Rest in Peace, Man.

 

I've been fighting cancer for 7.5 years. I've had a mostly good last two years, I've been able to travel and pretty much enjoy life, with some serious complications.

Cancer takes things. That's what it does. Sometimes it's an organ or two. Sometimes it's a limb, or your ability to write, or tie your shoe. Sometimes it's your ability to sleep, or walk without horrible foot neuropathy. It's hard to live with cancer, and I appreciate the fact that in every one of his later pictures he has a smile on his face. Married to the same woman for forty years. A rarity in Nashville.
