    Churchill never spoke those words. Many believe he did and have incorrectly passed the quote on.

    The phrase originated with Francois Guisot (1787-1874): "Not to be a
    republican at twenty is proof of want of heart; to be one at thirty is
    proof of want of head." It was revived by French Premier Georges
    Clemenceau (1841-1929): "Not to be a socialist at twenty is proof of

    I misquoted him. The exact quote is: “Show me a young Conservative and I'll show you someone with no heart. Show me an old Liberal and I'll show you someone with no brains.” The phrase originated with Francois Guisot (1787-1874): "Not to be a republican at twenty is proof of want of heart; to be one at thirty is proof of want of head." It was revived by French Premier Georges Clemenceau (1841-1929): "Not to be a socialist at twenty is proof of want of heart; to be one at thirty is proof of want of head." Churchill borrowed it and the quote as it appears online is said to have been part of a conversation with fellow party members in 1947. It is often misquoted using the ages of 20 and 40, but it seems to be unequivocal, even if the Churchill website denies it, that he did, in fact, say it.
