Where in the world can I find a plastic footlocker to travel the world with????

 

Share your enthusiasm for travel Dr. Griffin! I have travelled through Hungary, East and West Germany, Austria, France, US and Canada. Pedalled many miles with an Italian 10 speeder, flew many times (beginning with the old prop driven airplains and later with jets), took trains, ocean liners, and more recently cars. The most impressive was with bicycles. It was slow but you could soak in more from the scenery and can learn more about historical sites. Most of my trips to the French historical sites were done on wheels.

 

Please BJH, tell me more about France!!! I always wanted to go there. I tried to take a missions trip there several years in a row while in college. I guess it was my calling and not the Lord's or I would've gotten there.

 

Joy2, sorry for not checking earlier that my posting resulted in a follow-up question!

France is a glamorous country. If you ever go there, you can not spend a few days, a week or so, it has to be months. Otherwise you will miss out on many of the charming historical sites they have all over the country. France has a great past, a great history. For this reason most of the French people are still living in the past glory days, not realizing the time has flown by.

I would not recommend living there, however, especially if you have lived many years in the US. But as a visitor, as a missionary, it is both charming and challenging.

I would recommend a few days to be spent in Paris. There are so many sites there to see, beginning from the museums (of which the most famous is the Louvre), the Eiffel Tower, the famous cathedral of Notre Dame, the Bastille, the Monmartre (with the Basilique du Sacre Coeur), and many other features. I would also recommend to take a boat ride on the Seine River, and to eat in one of the many charming restaurants of the Champs-Elysees. Then to burn off that good food, you have to walk around the Arc de Triomphe.

Hope that the Lord will open for you an opportunity to see that great country, either as a missionary (after your children have grown) or as a tourist!
Incidentally our missionary friends (we have three there) are calling France the graveyard of missionaries - but the need is great).

Sounds exciting! Maybe it'll be a 25th wedding annivesary present-I can hope and pray!

I've always been interested in my French heritage, even thought they were probably Catholic. I'm actually the first generation that doesn't speak it! My parents haven't spoken it since childhood, so they have lost most of it.

 

Joy! I have a French heritage as well! Wonder if, somewhere waaaaayyyyyy down the line if we could be related?

My great-grandfather many times removed came to the country from France in the 1600's. He and his family were Huguenots.

Hey Dr. Bob! How about a new section for the board on genealogy?! That's a very interesting thing to talk about.

 

One side of my family came to the US by way of Quebec first. The other side came from France during the First WW. My grandmother still loves to tell the story about how Grampa's people came over on the boat! Both sides were originally Catholic, but both sets of grandparents were saved in the 50's and 60's!

 

Well, let me jump right on in the topic. I have been to England, Wales, Canada, Germany, Luxembourg, France, and Switzerland. I was in Paris in January and really enjoyed it, in spite of the fact that I was in the early stages of bronchitis while there.

All of that was within the last year, all of it work-related ( I am the Missions Administrator for a mission board/agency)

I am scheduled to go back to Germany and Switzerland in November for our European missions retreat.

If this keeps up, I will make Medallion status on Delta! Lots and lots of FF miles!
I really enjoy travelling, its returning back home to deal with issues that have arisen in my absence. Thank God I don't take my cell phone to Europe!!

 

Forgot to include this in my last post, while in London in 1998 (summer) I found the Metropolitan Tabernacle on my own, it took a little research and I was able to find it, but only to be disappointed on a Thursday afternoon, to find it locked up!!

Has anyone been there to attend services or ever been able to see the inside of the building?? I heard that it is drastically smaller than it was in Spurgeon's day, but I have heard from others that it is still a thriving Baptist church preaching the gospel and doing quite well, even if it is in a bad neighborhood!

 

Lady Joy2, actually the three missionaries I know, who are working in France, are: Pete & Isabelle Knickerbocker (since 1989); Tim & Elisabeth Knickerbocker (they are brothers); and Dorcas Harbin.

If I am not mistaken, there are around 23 missionary groups from fundamental, Bible believing circles, which are ministering in France. As I indicated in my earlier posting, France is an extremely difficult field.

 

Bro. Lange, it is good to bump into you on BBc! I am familiar with BMFP (of which you are the Missions Administrator). As a matter of fact, our church supports one of your missionaries, Alberto Gomez and family, who are serving in Columbia.

I got you all beat. I was born in Wisconsin, gone through Ohio a few times, then to Pennsylvania, I actually FLEW to Tennessee in 1980, and have driven there once, passing through Kentucky. I've been to Minnesota a couple of times, once in 1968 and in 2000. I drive to Chicago at least twice a week, and worked there for 12 years! How's that for credentials?

 

I am only 16, and I've been in a ton of states. I have been to California, Arizona, Texas, Colorado, Wyoming (My home state), Montana, South Dakota, Illinois, and Michigan. These are all the states that I have stayed in for a few days or weeks. Also, I have traveled to Canada and Mexico. I've been to Mexico twice. This summer I am also going to South Korea to teach kids.

 

The only country I've visited is Canada. I so very much want to live in Windsor. Too bad the casinos are there! I just felt like I'd been there all my life when I first drove in, and it was so strange. I knew exactly how to get everywhere I wanted to go and didn't have a map or anything. It was so cool! Maybe I'd be happy staying here if I could just bring home a few black squirrels. I'm sorry, but those things are the bomb, dude! (Ok, I've been hanging around WAY too many teens lately!) They're black! Really! Guess it doesn't take much to impress me. But who knew black squirrels even existed? I didn't.
That gives me an idea. Anybody on this board from Canada? If yes, how would you feel about going out and catching me one of those? I'll be eternally grateful. Honest!
Also, I've had the offer to visit China. Actually more like I was begged. I politely refused. Ew! Why would anyone want to go to a communist country that thinks of women as no higher than pond scum? Hmm. That was before I got married. Probably should have applied the same standards I set for travel to the criteria I had set for marriage material. (I'm not speaking of anyone in particular here oh wait can't lie, must erase that part of this post right away...)am doing it now........

I am not from Canada, but had a great opportunity earlier this year to visit Toronto, Guelph,Simcoe, and Woodstock. Canada is a very beautiful place and I could get used to it, except when its real COLD!!

 

Do you need a passport to go to Massachusets?

 

Has anybody been to park Pelee in Canada? I think it's a few hours from Windsor. I want to go some year to watch the butterfly migration and all the other fun stuff they have there! (hiking, canoeing, etc.)
