No, Baal is a pagan god who was worshipped in the 14th century BC by semetic peoples.

A Catholic is a person who is a member of the Roman Catholic Church.

    Baal - as in idolatry?

I would say that some parts of Catholicism is idolatry. But I would also say that when Baptists follow a preacher or a university president more than God, then that is being "Baal", too.

No. Baal was a false god. Roman Catholicism may worship a false god, so in that sense it is like the followers of Baal, but Roman Catholicism is not Baal.

The word Baal is a Hebrew word meaning Lord and so there are several referrences in the bible to Yahweh with the name Baal.

The prevailing thought is that the common Canaanite use of the name Baal for their god discouraged the hebrew use of the title Baal for Yahweh but it was still present.

The situation is similar to Allah being the arabic word for God that is used by Arabic Christians before Islam ever used the name for their god.

If the question of the OP is "do Catholics worship Baal", I would say yes if it refers to the Hebrew word for Lord in reference to Yahweh. I would say no if referring to the Canaanite god of the OT.

    Is Baal still alive?

Does Baal refer to "sun" gods?

    uhh...no.
And as for catholics and idolatry, part of the reason i left catholocism was the emphasis on imagary in worship.
The main reason was getting saved, of course.
