Trump Advocates Abortion Ban, Walks Back 'Punishment' for Women Remark

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin — After saying on Wednesday that he believes there should be punishment for women who undergo abortions if the procedure was outlawed, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump walked back the comment hours later.

In an exclusive interview with MSNBC's Chris Matthews, the GOP front-runner described himself multiple times as "pro-life" but struggled to define what the legal ramifications of that position should be. When continually pressed for what the answer is regarding punishing women who would break any theoretical ban, Trump said the "answer is that there has to be some form of punishment, yeah."

Later in the day, his campaign released a statement refocusing who would be punished should abortion become illegal. "If Congress were to pass legislation making abortion illegal and the federal courts upheld this legislation, or any state were permitted to ban abortion under state and federal law, the doctor or any other person performing this illegal act upon a woman would be held legally responsible, not the woman," the statement said. "The woman is a victim in this case as is the life in her womb. My position has not changed — like Ronald Reagan, I am pro-life with exceptions."

Trump just makes stuff up as he goes. I doubt that he's ever really thought through the complexities of the abortion issue.

He has now reversed his positions on waterboarding and torture, punishment of women for illegal abortions, and many other things just in the last couple of weeks. His flip flopping reminds me of a freshly caught sunfish that spit the hook out and is now freaking out in the bottom of the boat.

I'm not a fan of Trump, however he is brand new to this political game.
If he solidifies his view and then STICKS TO IT, then I would give his some slack.

I heard the interview. Trump hasn't been fought like this before. This will sharpen his skills, but he wasn't too shabby in defending the prolife position, which is the right position.

Abortion isn't complex. Zaac just says that in an effort to mask his prodeath positions. Abortion is really very simple. It's the killing of an innocent life to escape the consequences of one's immorality. (And don't even bother with the rape'n'incest canard. We all know that's BS.)

Here's how I would have answered the questions:

Q: How do you ban abortion?
A: How do you ban murder? How do you ban rape?

Q: Aren't you saying the woman should be punished for breaking the law?
A: When people conspire to take an innocent life, what kind of justice is there for the victim when one of the conspirators is granted immunity? We might as well grant immunity for the guards and executioners of the Nazi camps, after all, aren't they the victims of the propaganda?

So in the first case you evade answering by posing another question...

...and in the second case you invoke Nazism.

Yeah, that sounds like the Aaron from BB.

So let's see 2011 Trump so oh I Am pro-choice and if I ever run for President my views fit the Democratic Party. Now he has flip flopped so what will his view change to if elected?

Because, as you well know, abortion is murder. No one would argue that murder should be legal despite the fact some murderers will not be deterred by any law or threat of punishment.

But it is argued for abortion because of the notion that the unborn child is somewhat less than human, which was the same justification for the Nazi atrocities

. . . or is Planned Parenthood's mutilation of a child and the sale of a her body parts somewhat less heinous in your eyes?

Abortion is the Law of the Land so how can it be murder. Do you really think it would be allowed in this country if it was truly murder?

Zaac is pro-life for unborn babies and ALL born people. I would venture, you can't say the same. So save your lies.

When it was OK to kill a slave, it was the law of the land. Was it still murder?

Sent from my QTAQZ3 using Tapatalk

Slaves were not considered to be entitled to rights as a human, but were considered to be their owners property to do with as they wanted. So if they wanted to waste their investment by killing their property, how could it be called murder?

Depends on if you are speaking morally or legally.

Abortion is legal and thus legally it is not murder.

Morally it is debatable depending on when a person feels human life begins.

Some would argue that moral abortion is murder

  1. At any time
  2. Once the child has moved
  3. When the child's life is viable outside the womb
This is simply three examples of positions held by different individuals. .

Because abortion is legal it is not legally murder.

From http://dictionary.law.com/default.aspx?selected=1303

A charge of murder requires that the victim must die within a year of the attack. Death of an unborn child who is "quick" (fetus is moving) can be murder, provided there was premeditation, malice and no legal authority. Thus, abortion is not murder under the law.

Every one of the candidates has changed position on some issue or another, at some point. Just as an example, here is Bernie changing position on gun control. Our current president changed position on the Biden Rule. Rubio on immigration and so on. Trump was doing some fence straddling for sure, in part because abortion is legal according to the Supreme Court.

Aaron its not just hide immorality but a convenience device. I knew of a married woman at a wood industry factory where I was contracting who had a late term abortion - she already had 5 children and said having to care for another child would not be fair for the other children.

See - going on the same vein as your first question and answer, I would have just said "Should people be punished for breaking the law?" I see people getting all up in arms for the idea of punishing a woman for having an abortion but bottom line is if it is illegal, it's illegal and yes, by all means, someone doing something illegal needs to be punished, end of story. But abortion is not illegal nor will it ever be illegal again and so this is an argument that is just going to get someone in trouble. It's like asking a politician if they think someone living a homosexual lifestyle is living in sin. Yes, of course - but that's going to be a very unpopular stance.

Does it still make it right to have killed a slave?
