Trump Cancels Summit with North Korea

Trump cancels summit with North Korea then instructs Kim Jong Un if he changes his mind about the summit to contact him.

There must be some cultural more that I'm missing here. It seems very strange to cancel a meeting and then tell the person you just canceled with "if you ever change your mind about the meeting, give me a call."

Here is the full text of Trump's letter to Kim Jong Un:

Dear Mr. Chairman:

We greatly appreciate your time, patience, and effort with respect to our recent negotiations and discussions relative to a summit long sought by both parties, which was scheduled to take place on June 12 in Singapore. We were informed that the meeting was requested by North Korea, but that to us is totally irrelevant. I was very much looking forward to being there with you. Sadly, based on the tremendous anger and open hostility displayed in your most recent statement, I feel it is inappropriate, at this time, to have this long-planned meeting. Therefore, please let this letter serve to represent that the Singapore summit, for the good of both parties, but to the detriment of the world, will not take place. You talk about your nuclear capabilities, but ours are so massive and powerful that I pray to God they will never have to be used.

I felt a wonderful dialogue was building up between you and me, and ultimately, it is only the dialogue that matters. Some day, I look very much forward to meeting you. In the meantime, I want to thank you for the release of the hostages who are now home with their families. That was a beautiful gesture and was very much appreciated.

If you change your mind having to do with this most important summit, please do not hesitate to call me or write. The world, and North Korea in particular, has lost a great opportunity for latest peace and great prosperity and wealth. This missed opportunity is a truly sad moment in history.

Sincerely yours,

Donald J. Trump

President of the United States of America

It’s that Yankee fan grammar. I take it Trump cancelled the meetings and if Rocket Man can settle down Trump will gladly reschedule them.

The thanx for the hostages was rather nice. I suspect he was nudged into doing that.

Yes, I sort of figured when Trump said "if you change your mind about the summit" he meant if Kim Jong Un were to tone down the hostility and anger. But doesn't that mean Trump's looking for an apology? I doubt that is forthcoming, because if Jong Un apologizes we've already won the negotiations. But with everything else Trump has managed to pull out of the hat, I'm not counting it out. He keeps surprising me.

This is how you negotiate. President Trump is not a sap who can be manipulated into signing onto anything in order to get a deal.

Was disappointed when Ike could only get an armistice but now I am beginning to understand the difficulty. The Chinese like to threaten our allies and us all the time with North Korean atomic bombs. China is behind this failure. China is still a highly repressive state. North Korea is just following orders, in my opinion. From defectors, we know that North Korea is a poverty-stricken prison state. Poor Korea--trapped between China and Japan. China will not let go of North Korea. China is expansionistic and the West needs to check China militarily by building up our navy and other forces. China should get out of Korea and Tibet and recognize Taiwan as a free nation.

Apparently he learned from being burned and not getting funding for the wall on the continuing resolution spending bill because now there is this:

Trump says he won’t sign immigration bill without money for border wall
President Donald Trump said he won’t approve an immigration bill from Congress unless it includes funding for a wall and what he called “very strong border security.”

“Unless it includes a wall, and I mean a wall, a real wall, and unless it includes very strong border security, there’ll be no approvals from me, because I have to either approve it or not,” Trump said in an interview aired Thursday morning on “Fox & Friends.” Some moderate House Republicans have teamed up with Democrats in backing what’s known as a discharge petition, which would force a vote on proposals to protect Dreamers from deportation. But as Politico writes, such a move would go against the wishes of the GOP leadership, which has urged lawmakers not to sign the petition.

Another lesson in how you negotiate.

Hey, Korea has a wall - oh and we protect it a lot better than our own.

Pelosi said that this was a defeat for Trump and a big win for North Korea. She is so nuts. Which side is she on?

The bash Trump side, so much so that she has lost sight of the real issues (Nancy: Oops, Did I really say that?).

I am not a Trump fan but he is my president. I think he is handling "Little Rocket Man" marvelously. Trump set up reasonable expectations for the proposed summit. Every time he has spoken about it he says something to effect of, "We will see what happens. Maybe it will happen and maybe it will not". I think the short fat dictator running North Korea understands that Trump will continue with economic and military pressure on his third world regime. Not lost on this garden gnome is that Trump pulled out of the Iran deal. The President is willing to take on these hemorrhoids and excise them if necessary.

The problem is China, the oppressor of Tibet, the enemy of Taiwan, and the puppet-master of North Korea.

The rockets being used by North Korea may have been largely supplied by Russia.
