I don't agree that "God's demand for His people" was not found in the shadows of the Old Testament. However, we know from His Word that God has revealed Himself much more clearly in the Lord Jesus Christ. Hebrews 1.1-3 (emphasis added):

1 ¶ God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; 3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

God's demands on "His people" have changed vis-a-vis the "shadows." Shadows he speaks of are "religious rituals having some religious meaning." Our rituals would necessarily relate to Christ and the cross rather than to God's promises to Abraham and those people.

The whole temple system of commandments, while they meant the same thing (love God above all and thy neighbor as thyself) are observed in different manners as well. Judaism included SECULAR law for carrying out God's commands -- from the worship in the temple to the Sabbaths of the land to tithing and distribution to the poor (love of God and neighbor). BTW, this is called "sacral society" when government and religion are combined (and America is very nearly the first society NOT formulated this way!).

In Christianity, love commanded by the Holy Spirit. Jesus said that the 2 commandments I gave above comprehended ALL of the old law! So we worship differently (Jesus-God) and we carry out our responsibilities to love our fellow man differently (by free will offerings). And we let our government (we can argue whether we ought do this) handle much of the "distribution to the poor" along with their other secular duties of defense of law and order, right? BTW, this is called "composite society" when all religions are allowed and none control the government.
