Truth. Does it change with morality?

There is an interesting debate in the Baptist Only section about Calvinism being negated because John Calvin supposedly was an homosexual...so his source says.

Now the real question. If I preached the solid truth all my life and did nothing in public to suggest otherwise; my theology was sound, regardless of which brand; at what point does the truth I espoused become false because I developed a moral problem?

This is strictly hypothetical, folks. Not to trouble, I do not have a deep hidden secret. My closet is strictly for clothes.

IMO Jim, truth is truth, no matter who the messanger is. Truth of scripture does not change because I may (or I might, or have done, whatever) an immoral act. Fact is we all sin, and all do something displeasing to God, is that to mean the truth we believe and teach becomes false becasue of it? No. Does sin mean we are incapable of understanding truth? It better not or we're all in trouble. God's truths are not based on us, but on Him.

Hi Jim,

Well the way I see it is that someone can have a theology that was developed from the fact that he had a moral problem. For instance I know of a Pastor who teaches that all you have to do is have a relationship with Jesus and that behavior doesnt matter.

As it turns out he frequently goes around seducing women into adultery... so naturally he developed this theology of his to try to justify his own behavior and also uses it to seduce women into sin.

On the other hand a person can have a theology and if the theology is a faulty one it can eventually lead them down the wrong path into sin. It can work both ways.

On the other other hand though... a person can have a correct theology but then just plain allow Satan to lead them away from God and wind up in sin.

So you would have to know more about the person in question. I'd say that generally if the person in question plus alot of his converts have a morality problem, then thats a good indication his theology is faulty. Kinda like "by their fruits ye shall know them"... in some cases its more like "by their fruits and nuts ye shall know them"

Claudia, Actually, Donna hit the nail square on. God is truth, and truth depends on Him, not us.

In my premise, I said that all was correct in the theology department, regardless of which theology. I also said that the person lived a godly and moral life in developing this truth. After the fact, a moral question arises....Did this negate the truth he espoused?

That was the question.

If the truth is dependent on the morality of the person then the Pauline letters wouldn't be consider the truth.

But speaking humanly a person is more likely to believed if their lifestyle matches their words.
