Twelve: What kind of building does your church meet in?

Ours is one of thos elarge metal buildings, with full length brick additions on the front and back, doesn't look like it sounds.

very old purpose built Church. It was closed for many years and opened again 24 years ago by our current pastor, who bought it (in dire need of renovation). The builder who did nearly all the renovation is still a member with us.

 

We meet in the auditorium at the local high school.

 

We started out meeting in somebody's back yard. When it got too cold to do that, we rented a little storefront.

When we got too big for that place, we bought an old Grange Hall that sits on about 30 acres.

We're still in that building for the time being, but since then, we've aquired an ajoining farm and plan to start on our new building this summer.

I'm really looking forward to it, because it's based largely on a church I attended in Alabama, and on some buildings at Sumatanga, a Methodist retreat in Alabama.

Our architect jokingly refers to it as "God's own ski lodge" because it features a lot of stone and wood timbers and a large fireplace in the fellowship area. If I can figure out how to do it, I'll post some pictures for you.

2 converted industrial spaces in an industrial complex...16k square feet. Neat story. When we moved into our new area 2 years ago (from a theater), we quickly outgrew the 8000 square feet of space, mainly in the children's areas. We had 150 -180 members, but over a third were children and teens.

During an elders meeting, they jokingly said they should lay their hands on the wall and pray our neighbor is successful and would need a larger space. Well, our pastor called the landlord the next day asking what the status of the company was out of curiosity, and was told they were moving the next month! We got the space, and now our congregation is up to 250 with the children's ministries busting at the seams! We have bigger classrooms for the kids, more office and storage space, even a teen area where they can hang out and play games connected to a gym!

Same with us, we have one building with an addition on it sitting on about 18 acres of land.

 

In a traditionally shaped Catholic Church.....sanctuary,the congregation in the pews facing the sanctuary,holy water fonts at the entry. A choir gallery etc. Paid for by the congregation of course.

 

Well, I'm in the process of looking for a new church home, but my old church was a typical 1960's-era brick church building.
