Are there any people here who are familiar with two-handled cups, either then or now?

When we see these in antique stores or in stores now, are they or were they teacups? Is there any truth in that they were used only for hot chocolate, or were not really teacups, but meant for soup?

whilst called tea cups, I only remember using them for soup. We saucered the soup until it was cool enough to drink without burning one's mouth.

I think they originated in France, but were also manufactured in middle England.

    Cheers,

    Jim
