More good economic news.

“The number of Americans applying for unemployment benefits fell below 1 million for the first time since the pandemic began in March, suggesting the economic recovery is gaining some traction amid a deceleration in coronavirus infections.

Initial jobless claims in regular state programs fell by 228,000 to 963,000 in the week ended Aug. 8, Labor Department data showed Thursday. Continuing claims -- the total number of Americans claiming ongoing benefits in state programs -- decreased to 15.5 million in the week ended Aug. 1, the lowest since early April.”

The blue-chip corporation where I work called back all laid-off workers the first of this month. Now they are working overtime. I knew then that the GOP was pulling out all stops to win this election. The three suburbs that I was in today have lots of road construction. I went to the barbershop today, as well as CVS pharmacy, the bank, Kroger grocery store, the filling station, and the drive-through car wash. Every place was very busy and traffic was horrific. Try to find a parking place at Kroger and CVS. I guess it is the Brits who say that it is no sin to be poor but it is very inconvenient. Splendeurs et misères

My brother-in-law is an optometrist. He has been allowed to reopen his office, but is having trouble staffing it. His laid-off employees are earning more under the Federal Emergency Unemployment than they earned working for him. So Mike is at the office with his wife, but the Tech that did the prep work and the man that fit the lenses to the frames are still on unemployment.

Yup, everything is under control and working just fine. :Cautious

The barber is having the same problem. The $600 a week bonus expired I think. But Trump said that everyone is going to get $400 a week now. The are running the Indy 500 free on television but no one will be at the Indy Speedway and there will be no big parade downtown. It is supposed to be on August 23. I want to go back to normal.
