And when Americans die in a terrorist attack that might have been stopped by use of the PATRIOT's provisions, will you be joining the Left in decrying President Bush's "inaction"? Sure, if there are troublesome provisions, debate them and re-vote but a blanket rejection of that law is a bad move. I haven't read the link yet, though, will do so.

There have been zero terrorist attacks on U.S. soil since the Patriot act was passed. But this about this. How many terrorist attacks on U.S. soil occurred before the Patriot Act was passed in 2001?

Why don't they just start from scratch and come up with a bill that actually respects our rights?

There may not have been any executed but there have been many discovered and stopped.

I don't buy into the assumption that without the Patriot Act that potential attacks could not have been stopped. And I especially don't buy into that assumption based on shredding the U.S. constitution.

I would like to think differently but... this noble gesture will probably end when Republicans agree to generously restore pork to lib/mod Republicans and Democrats.

The deal probably could have been struck before now... someone miscalculated.

I think the effort in Iraq has as much if not much more to do with the lack of terrorism in the US as domestic efforts... and far more than the Patriot Act.

The best defense is always a good offense... and right now the terrorists are pouring their human resources into Iraq.

I'm not sure but I heard there was a big one on September 11, before it was passed.

It was a failure of the system and not a lack of one that allowed the attacks to succeed.

The Patriot Act was the knee jerk political reaction to "Something has got to be done".

Strange that almost every other government on the planet has had basically the same knee jerk reaction and solutions with these types of laws just waiting in the wings to be passed onto a frightened population. That doesn't fit the coincidence theory I suppose. [IMG]

    Human nature poncho.

Satan and those who would dominate others know that people under the right circumstances will buy the idea that they can trade their rights and liberties for security.

You said a mouthfull there Scott J!

I couldn't have explained "problem reaction solution" any better myself, and I've been practicing quite earnestly. ;)

I agree! 9/11 happened beacuse of incompentance in regards to our immigration policies and refusal to use wise profiling at the airports. The Patriot Act is an attack on our constitution and nothing more than a new way to increase the size and strength of the federal government!

As far as other attacks besides 9/11, there was the previous attack on the Twin Towers in 91 or 93 I believe, not sure on exact date.

I personally felt zero freedom loss from Patriot Act but don't like giving the government a blank check, so to speak, on my/our personal rights. Congress has had plenty of time to come up with a
    more sensible plan.

How many sleeper cells are all ready here and waiting for activation?

I feel also that a good offense is the best.

    NOT SCART IN ARKANSAS!

I know, LE. Some of our fellow citizens, including some on Capitol Hill, are apparently willing to unwittingly aid the terrorists in destroying our rights in these United States by supporting the (un)Patriot Act.

But there are lots of us who not willing to give up our rights and bow the knee to Big Brother government as a sort of protection "payoff". We will continue to work through the political process to protect the U.S. constitution and I hope will we see many more victories like the one today for all freedom-loving people in this country.

Hey, JGrubbs, glad to see we are in lockstep on this issue. [IMG]

I'm sure we will find many more issues to agree on as we finish up the last two years of the Bush administration and look towards 2008.
