My 3 year old daughter tackles roosters, full size rabbits, lifts 10lb turkeys and tackles boys her age.

I say let kids tackle each other. Injuries build character and teach lessons.

Why mandate rather than educate? If an actual case can be made for preparing or not kids for the real world, let those arguments be made. Nothing is as safe as perfectly safe. Everything we do has risks. If we think the benefits out weigh the risks we go for it. I played tackle football and learned you can tackle most runners, but do not get in front of "Teddy" as when he ran over you, he might really hurt you. With these lessons, we all grow in wisdom. One insight is we do not let the exception establish the rule. We know that an unlikely but very bad outcome is possible, but we take that risk for the benefit of say driving a vehicle.

From John Hopkins:

  • More than 3.5 million children ages 14 and younger get hurt annually playing sports or participating in recreational activities.
  • Almost 50 percent of head injuries sustained in sports or recreational activities occur during bicycling, skateboarding, or skating incidents.
  • Most organized sports-related injuries (62 percent) occur during practice.

Football. Almost 215,000 children ages 5 to 14 were treated in hospital emergency rooms for football-related injuries

Keep kids fat and happy!
Let them play games on their computers.

If kids stopped playing computer shoot-um games we would be waist deep in space aliens.
