Unethical Behavior for a Pastor?

Is there any question, Brother Bob? It is not only an untruth in the making it is flaunting the very reason for these regulations: safety.

Commonly we call it "our church or building" but legally it belongs to the contractor until it is turned over to the owner.

The fire marshall in the county could very easily have anyone in conjunction immediately arrested, if that meeting were to transpose. I would get with as many other preachers that the letter of invitation was sent to reply back with the intent of letting this man realize this for himself and get it right.

I understand his wanting to host a meeting, but the law is the law, "to protect and to serve".

 

Having just finished a new building and having to wrangle with inspectors I can understand the frustration of the pastor. I can't for the life of me understand how BREAKING THE LAW is honoring to God. I would go to the meeting wearing a clerical robe just to make a point and pray the inspector showed up!

Even putting aside any moral justification to be truthful, it just makes practical sense to tell the truth; you don't have to remember what lies you told to who & when & about what.

 

I'm a plumbing contractor and have to deal with inspectors and contractors all the time. I've found that if you do what the inspector asks and treat him like another human being you don't have any problems having to "wrangle" with them. Lying is wrong I don't care how much whitewash you cover it with, but let the one using mistruth/lie to understand it for themselves giving them a chance to repent.

 

I think the brother should just set up a big tent and have the meeting outside.

Do not condone his twisting of the truth.

 

I wonder, did the congregation buy into his work crew plan? Where was the congregation meeting before and why couldn't they just meet there?

Not the same, but, just as whacky. A pastor and youth minister were putting together a 5th quarter after a home football game. They were copying Christian music onto cassettes and giving them away as door prizes.

 

Funny joke, assuming he really is meeting in the old building. I hope you really called him on it, right?

I agree with the suggestion that you have as many of the invited pastors as you can respond to the man with a word of confrontation/rebuke for his evil intentions. If he refuses to listen and pushes forward with his plan, I would initiate church discipline against him.

I would not go and would tell him why. I have heard these kind of things before. Since we don't believe in the government telling us what to do we feel no real compunction to follow any kind of rules. I say as long as the govt does not interfere with God's business I have no problem with their concern to keep His people safe. That should be my concern as well as their pastor.
