A hymn written by Joseph Irons in Zion's Hymns. (in long meter)

"Union With Christ"

1. Blest union! form'd by love divine,
Christ says I'm His, and He is mine;
His choice He never will revoke,
Nor let His cov'nant bond be broke.

2. Here's love! I'll tell it all around;
A God-a worm in union found!
Jesus, the monarch of the skies,
Owns me as precious in His eyes.

3. Yes, I'm united to the King,
And of His glories I must sing;
He takes my guilt, gives me His grace,
That I may live in His embrace.

4. Yes, Jesus and my soul are one,
I've life and bliss in Him alone;
Because He lives, I live to prove,
His sov'reign everlasting love.

Every human is conceived in iniquity, in a sinful state, separated spiritually from God, rather than in union with God.
This sinful separated state is described as being "dead in sins or trespasses," Ephesians 2:1.

As conceived we are "in Adam" (1 Corinthians 15:22) also described as being "in the realm of darkness" (Colossians 1:13).

If God credits our faith as righteousness, then He transfers us out of the realm of darkness into Christ spiritually, the kingdom of marvelous light.

When transferred into Christ, we undergo the washing of regeneration, the circumcision of Christ, and arise in Christ a new creation, holy and blameless, justified and glorified, and made alive together with Christ. After being made firm or established in Christ, we are indwelt with the Spirit of Christ, 2 Corinthians 1:21-22.

All the verses that say we are within Christ, i.e. in Christ, show that we are "in union" with Christ. We are spiritually in Him and He is spiritually in us. We know Him and more importantly, He knows us. We will never hear "I never knew you!"

The lost are not in union with Christ, the saved are in union with Christ.
