Unrest in Cuba

Raul Castro is trying to hold a referendum on a new constitution that has a negative rating among the Cuban public. This and the declining standard of living has sparked a minor demonstration in Havana, where such demonstrations are very rare in the repressive police state. The Cubans are no longer able to steal much from Venezuela because they have already ruined the country.

Meanwhile in Venezuela, Maduro is begging Raul Castro to let him flee for his life but Maduro has nowhere to go in Latin America except Cuba or Mexico. More later, but Maduro is afraid and has to wait for orders from Havana, which has told him to stay put.

Here is the video from Havana, which was transmitted via Twitter and reposted on YouTube. The author claims hundreds of people were involved but it may be only dozens, but still remarkable for courage in such a police state where beatings and imprisonments without trial are the normal punishments for such things:

Yeah, the unrest in spreading, first Nicaragua, then Venezuela and now Cuba. You know Cubans just adopted a new constitution that's more "socialist" and less "communist" but Russia is still protecting that country out of habit, while Maduro is on his own.

I don't think he can last much longer, the pressure is just too much. There were his own goon squad that gunned down the unarmed protesters, the regular military are not behind him. And Putin won't bail him out, Trump has told him to butt out of the American region because we looked the other way when Russia took Crimea a few years back. Don't want to invade militarily, the day of the neocon have come and gone but sanctions and encouraging internal pressure are okay with me.

Trump knows that if Maduro is toppled, it greatly weakens and may do the same in Cuba, Nicaragua, maybe Bolivia. Cuba is the biggest prize but need to take it one Latin American failed socialist state at a time.

When I left Cuba
I will never be able to die1
My heart I don't have here (with me)
Someone is waiting for me
They're waiting for me to go back there

Chorus:
When I left Cuba
I left behind my life, I left behind my love
When I left Cuba
I left my heart buried in the ground

It beats and continues beating
Because my land gives it life
But the day will come
When my hand will reach it

Chorus

A sad storm
Is battering me without rest
But the sun of your children2
Soon will make the calm reach you

Chorus
