Good article. I disagree with the last line, though. If Christian political activism is to be a major force politically, it should not limit itself to one party. Doing so may result in shooting oneself in the foot.

Well, as an Evangelical Christian, I feel let down by the Republican Party and the Administration. The other option is for the Constitution Party. But the Constitution Party doesn't have a chance realistically speaking...they aren't even taken seriously enough to be allowed to participate in national debates, are they?

I sure wouldn't vote the party of Satan.

So I guess I won't vote anymore. And some people call themselves disenfranchised. Well, what about the Christian Right? We settle for the Republican Party, but that's just what it is....settling for the lesser of two evils. I say the Evangelical Christian voters are the ones who are disenfranchised. And I know I'm not alone in how I feel.

When Sen. Joe Lieberman runs as the Democratic Presidential candidate with Hillary Clinton on the ticket as VP, the Democrats will be assured victory. Reason? The Republicans have, including the White House, sold out the Christian Right and will lose votes...not to Democrats, but to the Constitution Party or to those who choose not to vote again. :(

I have never seen the Republican Party so spineless as they are now in this recent fiasco over Trent Lott.

Well, I vote -- or don't vote -- for candidates. How easily we forget how many on the "Religious Right" thought the Republicans were the "Party of God" and were willing -- no, eager -- to believe that the voice of the Republicans was the Voice of God.

Any party that says it speaks for God lies, and lies badly.

Chalk up another one for C.S. Lewis.

Well, so far, the Republican party is not:

    pro-murder of the unborn,

pro-mass producing of stem cells from laboratory created embryos just to murder them off for research for possible cures they may one day discover,

    or

    against traditional family values.

However, there is a party who stands for all of the above and their leadership will tell you that, right along with their newly elected minority leader, Nancy Pelosi...they are so proud of it that it's all documented right from the top!

PS: So the Republican Party is the Party of God? Well I just learned something new today! :D [IMG]

Ultra-conservative, evangelical, biblical-literalist Christians will never have major success on the national scene because - any way you slice it - they are a small minority.

If I were American, I think I would be a swing voter. I liked Barry Goldwater, Nixon, Reagan. ON the Democrat side, I liked Carter, Bobby Kennedy (not a president) and Clinton (obviously not for his misguided morals). Then there is a huge step. I never trusted either Bush...I thought their primary interest has been fueling their buddies in the oil industry,,,,at least that is the impression from an outsider..........then,,,,,,,,we have our own problems in Canada with the lack of leadership in any party.

I guess this all points to problems on the western front.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Hummmm, God has not called us to be succesful. He has called us to be faithful. That means not only being faithful to Him in our pulpits but being faithful to Him in the voting booth.

    She Eagle,

Think abou the "doesn't have a chance realistically speaking" part.

Didn't the same apply to the three Hebrew Children in the furnace?

And David, when he slew Goliath?

And what about marching around the walls and blowing the trumpets?

    Or, crossing the Red Sea?

Or, in a way, even Jesus' disciples themselves thought all was lost when, actually, the victory of all time had just been accomplished.

I submit that, in Politics, we need to start thinking like children of The King. As pointed out above, we are not called to be successful, just faithful.

I say that when God's people start sticking to their guns rather than groveling at the feet of the pagan idiots who run the Republican party, we will experience God's blessing.

Now you must realize that if you don't vote, you have absolutely no basis for complaining about what's happening politically. Maybe your one vote would not have mattered, but if it's never cast you'll never know?! Also, a "no vote" by a Christian just gives the opposition one more vote that's not negated. Do you want that on your conscience?

Keep in mind also that the position we're in today started many, many years ago in miniscule steps; so miniscule that most Christians didn't even notice. Once you were accustomed to the "new" morality, another miniscule step was taken; again un-challenged. Time after time this happens until the masses are so conditioned that murder is no longer murder, IF it's done 10 seconds (+/-) prior to a new life entering this world. Homosexuality is now accepted by many as "just another lifestyle" even though it is specifically condemned in scripture. We even see Christians (?) approving abortion and gays as "OK" by God.

Most likely we (Christians) could have defeated these demons, but we were too busy working, playing, "being good little Christians" etc to notice what was happening.

So don't expect to find any candidate that's going to mirrow your concerns precisely, but determine the main 1,2,or 3 principles, and vote accordingly. If we all do that we could eventually turn this once proud U S of A back to her true roots. Just got to realize that IF we insist on one or two elections to reverse these sins, we'll lose every time, cause the opposition is satisfied to get bits & pieces as long as the trend is going their way.

    Pennsylvania Jim:
Last, but absolutely not least, if we expect to prevail in this endeavor, we are going to have to trust God and follow His guidance knowing that He is in control of nations, so we surely can let Him control each of us!

(Also you could not in good conscience display the bumper sticker that says "DON'T BLAME ME! I DIDN'T VOTE FOR ---!")
