USS Johnston found...

The USS Johnston,(DD 557) a heroically-commanded & handled destroyer at the WW2 battle off Samar, was found, & photo'd in March this year by Caladan Oceanic, in 20K ft. of water. This ship had led the charge of small ships against a mighty squadron of Japanese battleships & heavy cruisers, & was instrumental in causing its commander, Adm. Kurita, who was an able commander, to believe this scanty force was the tip of a much-larger force of Adm. Halsey's ships. (Halsey had been decoyed into chasing an impotent carrier force away from the area.) This action likely saved the Leyte invasion force, which was then landing.

The photos clearly showed the ship's ID # of 557, proving it was the Johnston Its skipper, Lt. Cmdr. Ernest E. Evans, received a posthumous MOH for his heroic, selfless command in this battle.

 

The R/V Petrel, owned by the Vulcan Corp, found the remains of the Kaga& Akagi, Japanese carriers sunk in the Battle of Midway, some 18K ft. down. Their goal, assisted by the USN, is to find all the vessels sunk in that battle, from both sides.
