    In Flanders Fields
by Lt. Col. John McCrae, M.D. (1872-1918)
    Canadian Army

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

    The Little Green Tents

The little green tents where the soldiers sleep, and the sunbeams play and the women weep, are covered with flowers today; and between the tents walk the weary few, who were young and stalwart in 'sixty-two, when they went to the war away.

The little green tents are built of sod, and they are not long, and they are not broad, but the soldiers have lots of room; and the sod is part of the land they saved, when the flag of the enemy darkly waved, the symbol of dole and doom,

The little green tent is a thing divine; the little green tent is a country's shrine, where patriots kneel and pray; and the brave men
left, so old, so few, were young and stalwart in sixty-two, when they went to the war away!

    ___Walt Mason

    May we always remember.

    Thank you for remembering.

In the words of the Royal Canadian Legion; the War Amps....

It was our war (those of us who were there); it is their legacy (the youth of to-day),,,,,,,,Never again!

In Canada, now, we lose 28,000 veterans each year, from the First Great War through to Korea,,,,the age factor. It is heart rending to stand at the cenetaph and remember your comrades who never came home again; the innocent people who died as the result of war. I find it harder each year to stand there, to preach and to pray, and look at the world to-day and the current threats of war. What have we learned? Did some die in vain?

I wipe my medals and repeat; Never again!

    They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
    We will remember them.

    Cheers, and God bless,

    Jim

God bless the veterans. I was drafted out of Bible College in 67 to go to Vietnam. God deferred from service until I finished school/grad work and got ordained so I could go in as Chaplain.

Volunteered in 72, then was almost immediately deactivated as the war in 'nam was being geared down. Called back in 83 with the crisis in Lebanon, but after thinking it was a done deal, I was found to be "too old".

So to the grizzled veterans who really got the privilege and the sacrifice of serving, my hat is off. [IMG]

    Dr. Bob,

Thank you. In the words of Milton, who had another war in mind, "They also serve who stand and wait." You were willing and you were ready, and that is what counts to me, a veteran.....as a civilian through five years of bombing in London, and as a chaplain in Korea.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Hey, Guys!! I wrote this little "Diddy" for Memorial Day--but see no reason I can't honor you vet's with it here. So here goes!

    WE REMEMBER!!
Memorial Day! Opportunities to remember fallen soldiers and airmen!

We remember men and women-given lives! Lives given--no longer livin'--on battlefields for America!

We remember Pearl-that fateful Sunday still living in infamy! The USS Arizona still spilling out fuel oil drop by drop into her harbor. Over one thousand trapped below.

We remember Bataan and the march--one step at a time. Lava rocked Iwo Jima--and that flag! Okinawa and being pinned down!!

We remember June 6, 1944 and Operation Overlord and we remember Bradley's breakout--code name COBRA! We remember Bastogna and the Battle of the Bulge. Patton and those Ivory handled postols!

We remember the soldiers who never got to read the newspaper headlines--WE WIN!!!

We remember Korea--the 38th Parallel and the Marines on frozen Chosen! Its hard to forget this "Forgotten" war! The boys who never made it home "before Christmas!"

We remember Vietnam--the Mekong Delta, Central Highlands and the DMZ!! And those nasty, nasty twelve month "tours!"

We remember the Persian Gulf and those radar proof bombers. We remember "Stormin'" Norman and how it was "over before it got started!" Over 100 souls left their blood in that desert sand.

We remember Granada, Panama, Beruit, Somalia, and Haiti! A life given here and a life given there!

We remember! We remember! And for the next 100 years we'll still remember! The men who died to keep us free!

That's why when your President calls--you've got to go!! So in the words of General George Patton--"Don't you be a sissy!" You go! And if you don't make it back--we'll remember why!

God bless the Veterans--below the earth and walkin' the earth!

    Your friend,
    Blackbird

We had several Vets in church this morning. Our Minister asked them to stand up and we prayed over them and applauded their heroics.
We had one long time Member who is a Peral Harbor survivor. God love him! He has Alzeimers and barely remembered even being in the Service. But we applauded him and loved him this morning and he had tears in his eyes!
I thank all of them for all they did and gave. And may God Bless my Great Uncle who was killed in WW2.
    Thank you all!
    Love in Christ Angie [IMG]

I just want to say a big thank you to all of you veterans out there who have and who continue to make our nation one of freedom and make it possible for my family and I to lay down and go to sleep at night knowing that we are safe and secure. May God richly bless you all.

    Yours in Christ

As a Vietnam and Gulf War veteran I want to give thanks to all who have given parts of their lives to help maintain the great freedoms we have here in America.

I ask God's blessing on all veterans today.
