Are you a Vet - then next time "order Arms" for the playing of the National Anthem!

Covered or uncovered. I have also found that when I do it tends to get the attention of others around me and they to then attempt to render proper respect. I truely believe if we veterans as a whole were rendering a salute it would impress the majority of our "civilian" counterparts enough that they would begin to do the same. I still believe that we have a patriotic country, but just have lost the "heart" of displaying it becuase of ...I'll stop here, you pick the reason

In Canada and the UK, it is improper to salute unless one is wearing a cap with the appropriate badge on it. An individual represents a unit when he salutes and not a person.

Proper respect is standing to attention, removing one's hat and facing the flag.

    Cheers,

    Jim

My dad was in WWI and up until the day he died, at age 85, he always removed his hat and saluted the flag. I always put my hand over my heart.

It's a shame that most of the people we see at parades, etc., don't pay any attention to it. They don't even remove their baseball caps, let alone do anything else. I guess they've forgotten what it stands for and how many people died to protect it. :(
