Vets on the borders - what say you?

I came up with this idea. What do you think?

HIRE A VET AT ICE and CBP!

Note to President Trump ... I realize you are building up the BORDER PATROL, and ICE. Why not offer the opportunity to be considered for the new jobs to recent and scheduled to retire service members and vets. These men and women are already security cleared; trained with weapons; physically fit; able and capable to protect America. They are also deserving of a great government job upon leaving service to their country. It will save the country tons of money in training and vetting new hires. Just my opinion, but, you are looking to cut costs, and honor vets. It is a definite win-win! A real "huge" no brainer.

I don't think it's a bad idea at all. But don't they already get veteran's preference in hiring?

You'd still have to do some screening because not all types of military service naturally lead to a good fit for these agencies. MPs? Absolutely. Artillery operators? Maybe, but not because of their specific knowledge, just general military readiness and discipline.

The vet groups I fellowship with frequently alert each other when border patrol vacancies hit usajobs.

They get preference, but it's still a long hiring process.
