Seems to be many conceptions of what will occur at the Bema Seat (II Cor 5).

    I have heard -
I will be judged there for actions/sins
I will receive rewards or be punished according to my works
I will have my life projected on big screen TV so all can see my motives and actions
I will obey my pastor and his preaching (guilt-ridden, manipulative) or pay the consequences

How do YOU interpret the Bema?

"But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ." (Rom. 14:10)

"For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire." (1 Cor. 3:11-15)

"For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad."
    (2 Cor. 5:10)

As these verses reveal, a Christian isn't judged to determine his eternal destiny. A Christian's eternal destiny is established the moment he receives Jesus Christ as Savior. The Judgment Seat of Christ is for judging the Christian's SERVICE while on this earth. Rewards will be given to some, while others will lose rewards (2 Jhn. 8), but no one goes to Hell at this judgment.

The bema seat is the place where Christ will reward his bride. Now, I recognize that a debate can be started over the nature of the reward, but suffice it to say that all ideas of condemnation are misguided and ignorant.

The judgment is not one of condemnation.

All true believers can and should eagerly look forward to the final triumphant victory over sin and confidence of eternal life.

swordsman, are you aware that the word for "bad" is a word that means "worthless". In other words, everything a Christian does, thinks, is, etc., it is good (by faith) or worthless (not by faith).

Christians do not produce bad fruit.

I believe that passage also. Why don't you explain the perceived problem between our views.

"If it is not of faith, it is sin.."

Any work not done by faith will burn.

Jesus himself taught that the kind of fruit that is produced depends on the tree. Why do you disagree with him and say that a good tree can produce bad fruit. I don't think people should disagree with Jesus. I certainly never expect to see it in the Conservative forum.

The term was used to denote a raised place or platform, reached by steps, originally that was at Athens in the Pnyx Hill, where was the place of assembly; from the platform orations were made. In the Grecian games in the arena, this was the platform that the umpire sat on where he rewarded all the contestants, as well as the winners.

The word later became used for a tribune, two of which were provided in the law courts of Greece, one for the accuser and one for the defendant; it was applied to the tribunal of a Roman magistrate or ruler, Matt. 27:19; John 19:13; Acts 12:21, translated "throne;" 18:12,16,17; 25:6,10,17.

In two passages the word is used of the Divine rewards seat before which all believers are hereafter to stand. In Rom. 14:10 it is called "The judgment seat of "of Christ" according to the most authentic mss. The same place of reward is called "the judgment
seat of Christ," in 2 Cor. 5:10. This judgment seat is to be distinguished from the premillennial, earthly throne of Christ, Matt. 25:31, and the postmillennial "Great White Throne," Rev. 20:11, at which only "the dead" will appear.

The fact that all believers and only believers will stand at the Bema seat is obvious. I also feel that rewards will be given and taken away. What else goes on there? I have heard some who claim that punishment is handed out here but I don't see it, what about the rest of you.

Christ bore my punishment on the Cross of Calvary. He washed my sin away and remembers it no more. Jesus is my lawyer. [IMG]

The Bema Seat is only for those whose names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life & rewarding of Crowns. [IMG]

I see it (the BEMA seat) as a place where the good we have done for the Kingdom of God is rewarded. And that which is not worthy of reward, will be passed off as unworthy.

Example: Let's say I go to the theater (not worthy of reward), but while there I lead someone to Christ (worthy).

Much of the misconceptions (and really B-A-D preaching) is based on faulty understanding of God's Word.

God's Word says "bema". From the Greek for step up - means elevated platform used for "rewards" or place of "crowning the victor". Absolutely NOTHING to do with our modern concept of judgment (implying judge for sin, etc).

Stood at the Bema in Corinth (every Greek town had one), and could imagine Paul writing about it to them.

I do not want my "works" (outworking faith) to be worthless or no value. That is the word in the Scripture "kakos" - we get cacaphony for noise or disharmony.

So, now, Doctor Bob, tell us about the rewards. My dad used to preach on it but I can't find my notes about the crowns with the Scripture references. Crown of Life, etc. [IMG] They must be in my other Bible.

    Pretty Please. [IMG] [IMG]

PS: We might as well pick your brain since you started this thread. [IMG]

The different crowns refer to salvation. They are not 5 individual rewards.

Some people mistakenly take this approach.

So you are saying that is here that we receive salvation, I don't understand.

Murph, it is about Final salvation. It is not to be confused with justification.

Please explain why you believe this. You can't get to the BEMA seat without having salvation first.

In the passages on the Judgment Seat of Christ, you will not read that "crown" are given. It only says rewards. We do not know what those rewards are.

Consider the passages that deal with the so-called 5 crowns. Read them with the thought in mind that he is speaking of final salvation.

Something else, I believe the judgment seat takes place immediately after the rapture. I believe this as a result of other things. It is not the result of exegesis. The reason is because the Scripture does not with certainty say when the judgment seat of Christ takes place. It could happen at the end of the tribulation also. I am pre-trib so please don't think I deny that truth.

Tentmaker, I hope that helps. If that isn't what you were looking for, let me know.

Could be DD, I looked up the 5 and I was wondering if you are counting 1 thess 2:19 as one of the crowns. I read crown of life twice. You may have a point with this line of thinking.
