The image looks like your nude body made out of clay. But every detail is on display in the image.

I have used this device several times.

 

Having observed a good number of undressed bodies in a previous job, I can say that it will not be all that titillating.

However, I can think of a way to make it less objectionable to people. If the president and his family would submit to it, and allow the images to be broadcast, then ordinary citizens would be less likely to complain.

 

WEll, I would complain!! eeewww yuck! Just the idea of W naked!!!

 

Better him than me. He's pretty buff for his age.

It's not the titillation factor but the eeeww-yuck comments that I'd rather not have directed my way.

One more reason not to fly.

 

They tested this 5 years ago in the Knoxville airport. It was developed in Oak Ridge. I remember reading an article abour it then and it did show graphic body parts.

I am a very modest lady and I find it would be very offensive to my modesty and dignity. No one sees me even 1/2 dressed other than my husband.

 

As it should be.

 

Big difference between having one or two professional screeners look as a part of their jobs and having your body brodcast to everybody.

That is like saying having a pat search would be less humiliating if the Prez let the whole country feel him up.

 

It does show graphic body parts. Even though they look like they are made out of white clay the form is still there. You can see what everything is. Only the color and texture is removed. Looks like smooth clay.

Might as well say "professional office cleaners." These aren't the cream of the crop we hired.

I figure, if Bush wouldn't mind his family being virtually undressed so people could see, then the rest of us could put up with it, too.

This thing takes X-rays of your body. I assume it is a relatively lose dose compared to diagnostic X-rays because regular diagnostic X-ray exposure every time you get on the plane does pose a health hazard by increasing the incidence of cancer due to low dose radiation.

Passengers of cross-ocean flights already get an annual background dose of radiation from cosmic radiation because of the reduced atmosphere up there. Depending on the energy of the X-rays from this machine, this could dramatically increase the incidence of cancer for frequent flyers.

It sounds like they won't scan everyone and you will have a choice of a pat-down. I guess my recent courses in radiation physics and radiation biology would have me prefer the pat-down.

Who knows what will happen if the TSA starts liking this technology though.

 

I see nothing wrong with the screeners, in general. Or office cleaners for that matter. From what I have seen they are fairly selective on who they hire. Maybe it is just where I am at.


I agree Bush could take the sting out of it by submiting to the search. It was the broadcasting that I think went to far. Like I say there is a big difference between submiting to a search and broadcasting your neaked form for the whole world to see.

 

It is suposto be very low radiation. Like what you get from your computer screen. I know when I used the device there were no limits on how many times you could use it on a person or how often. We used it every day twice a day on some of our...........customers.

 

I'm way over on the conservative side when it comes to debates on modesty, but I think there's a way around it in this instance.

I think we'd all agree that the image in the news story is more gruesome than erotic. Now, imagine a job where you had to view these things for hours on end. The interest factor for the screener would be zero. Furthermore, if women were the screeners, fewer female passengers would object, and men wouldn't care, anyway.

Lastly, if the screener were set apart so that she never saw the person directly, but only saw the radiographic image, it would seem no more invasive than if med school students saw pictures of your liver without knowing whose it was.

 

What about a line for men and a line for women. Women screeners for women and male screeners for men.

That on top of setting the screener apart so they never see the person directly.

 

Won't be no time until we see Rush Limbaugh plastered all over the net when he is on viagra.

As far as the picture in the newstory, I can't tell you how much an Xray showing a woman with no hair and pasty white complexion excites me. In fact, I can't tell you, I won't tell you... forget I said anything. :smilewinkgrin: :laugh: raying:

 

Let's see if I have this straight: A group of men who meet a certain profile decide to hijack planes and fly them into buildings, but because our government is afraid to profile and it is considered politically incorrect and a slam against certain minorities to profile, I, a US citizen who was born and raised here and whose forefathers have been here for several hundred years, must now be subjected to having my underwear and personal belongings rooted through by strangers at airports, must stand in long unnecessary lines waiting to be "investigated", must be limited in carrying tiny bottles of shampoo and other personal itiems aboard the plane, must be wanded by strangers and take off my shoes, and finally must be interrogated by x-rays that show my private body so that a perfect stranger can lurk (or stare) at my body. Okay. My freedom is gone and the islamic terrorists have won. Welcome to the politically correct New World Order. What utterly ridiculous lengths will our society go to out of fear of being called racist or islamaphobes?

Actually, no. The reason they're wanting to go to the x-ray is to expediate the security process, if I read the article correctly. They've been listening to all of us whine, complain, bicker, argue and fuss about the security measures they put in place to make sure that the plane we're on doesn't fly into a building, because it's "inconvenient" for us. So, they've come up with a faster way, a machine that shows your body in a completely non-lurid, medical way so that they can pass you through more quickly, and yet be able to tell if you have contraband on your person. Actually, the machine shows nothing that anyone with an imagination would see if they looked at you even with clothes on. If you don't like it, drive.

Your freedom is only gone if you choose to give it away. Taking your shoes off at the airport, or submitting to an x-ray is hardly infringing on your freedom.

No, it's more like, Welcome to Whiners Anonymous. I'm sorry, but I feel pretty darn safe when I get on a plane, even if it means I have to arrive a little earlier and submit to a few searches. Because I look like I do, I've been subject to alot of "random" searches, but I'm perfectly happy to go through them. Feel free to take a bus next time you travel.
