Anyone invested in it yet. I downloaded their program that tests your system to see if you can run it and I can't  I'm taking that as a good thing - in the pocket book at least.

Actually have not seen any real reason to get it in the ads I've seen either.

My video card is not good enough, which I knew from the ads, but they listed almost the rest of the computer as questionable - not enough information they said, which leads me to think it is too old to know about

CPU and memory passed muster but that was about all.

XP is lookin better and better me thinks. :applause:

I will tell you up front... Vista is absolutely gorgeous. I was designed from the ground up to be beautiful, and it is.

Now that that is out of the way... Many things will not work with Vista. Vista, while being basically "backward-compatible" with XP, is different enough that many programs will not work properly or at all. Devices, like printers and such, are hit or miss. Most do not hav drivers yet, so they are paperweights as far as Vista is concerned.

You see, my mother-in-law's computer died at the same time of Vista's launch (power supply blew, taking out the motherboard). She decided to buy a new one, so she went down to WalMart and bought a brand-spanking new eMachine (she likes them... good computers). SAhe brought it home, and I set it up for her. Well, her ISP software won't work with Vista (Netscape). Her printer, a brand new Lexmark, has no drivers, although Lexmark said to keep checking back "over the next few months." None of her software for college would work. So we packed it back up and took it back, and exchanged it for a Compaq that had XP on it.

Pro: Probably will be more secure. More attractive than XP.

Con: Created and supported by Microsoft, with all of the strengths and weaknesses entailed by that fact.

Why not just skip Vista and go to Mac OS X? Most of the features and visual fireworks in Vista have been in OS X for several years. And the upcoming update to OS X will take it to new heights.

Well I'm still a fan of 2000, Pro ver. anyways. But have been playing around with this Linux ver I downloaded & I'm liking it more & more. Course I know it's like learning a whole new language when you're used to windows. But if I understand right most developers are creating new drivers, etc., to work with newer hardware. And if you are savvy enough you can write yoour own. Course I ain't that savvy yet!!!
Oh, Trotter...I was wondering about your beauty too...must be "inner beauty"...Huh???

It seems to be a pile of junk. But I'm sure we will all get used to it.

I have used Vista a bit and have to say that it does LOOK good. I started using it during the public beta but it didn't work well on that machine (P4 2.0 512 664 meg video)

But performance now is great on my Macbook pro and teh video drivers were built in.
That said, I actually hate it. It is the most annoying OS I have ever used.

I second the motion to skip Vista and get a Mac.

check out the Mac Mini and the MacBook, they are good deal but the iMac isn't bad either.

The funny thing is, they are all just fine for vista, though why a normal user would want to do that is beyond me :)

THe last post by "Milady" was actually me. I forgot my wife was signed in :)

She mostly agrees about the Mac, though she likes the new 3D cars games in Vista :)

I just bought a new HP just last month. It has XP pro on it but since it's a 64 bit system they made me an offer to upgrade to Vista. I emailed them my proof of purchase and the serial number along with the number from my certificate of authenticity. They say they will authenicate it and send me the upgrade for free. Whether they do or not remains to be seen. They told me they would give me an verfication number to verfy it in 5 days but they haven't yet. I sent them another email and asked if everything was going ok but they claimed they couldn't find my paper work. They said I needed to do it again so I did but still as yet I haven't heard from them. I figured that if I didn't like it I could always go back to XP
