Walk the Line

I am looking forward to seeing this movie next week. Thanks for the review.

 

I got some Johnny Cash songs I listen to. I like A Boy Named Sue, and Daddy Sang Bass.
Looking forward to renting the DVD. This summer I guess.

 

I'm not into country music.

 

I also plan on seeing the movie and it's nice to hear a good review. There's some talk it may win some awards! I guess we'll have to wait and see.

 

I saw "Walk the Line" today after work. It is now, and forever more will be, my favorite movie. The intensity of the acting by Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon was simply overwhelming to me.

When I was a youngster in school as a reward for making straight A's I was able to buy a Johnny Cash album. I grew up listening to his albums and singing along.

As basically a lifelong Johnny Cash fan I think this movie is great, great, GREAT!!!!

 

my wife and I picked up the DVD and watched it last night. We both really enjoyed it. I did not know that much about Cash's life. It was an interesting movie. If you have not seen it I would recommend it.

We watched it last night too! It was a great movie, and Reese and Joaquin were EXCELLENT.

 

Saw it, and have one major problem with it. Johnny Cash's first wife was NOT the witch this movie made her out to be. She was very supportive of his career, in his early days.

I understand Roseanne Cash walked out of the movie.

Good acting & subject matter, yes. But I don't like revisionist history. The mean wife makes for better film-making.

I didn't get that impression from the movie. I don't think the movie made her out as a witch. When his music started providing for the family she wasn't complaining. Before that I think any wife would be a little upset if they were being evicted with a baby on the way. As for the reaction to JC hanging pictures of June Carter or her telling June to stay away from her kids, again I see that as a natural reaction. Maybe it was a little exaggerated, but not to the claims of Roseanne Cash, who of course would not like it. Others have come out and sid it was not completely off the mark. I'll try and find the interviews.

 

Bro. Curtis, I do not doubt what you say as hollywood does that all the time. Is there a book or something that supports what you say? If there is I would like to read it.

 

And that's why I watch very few, selected movies. I would rather watch fiction, than a fictionalized account.

Maybe he was a little strapped for cash when he was going to broadcasting school, but never evicted. Cash got out of the service in '54, and was a famous country performer in '55.

 

I don't go to the movies, but read a lot of good things about it. I like Johnny Cash music and have a few CD's I play. What impressed me most about Johnny Cash, the man, is just that; the man. He gave so much to so many in his industry along the way. No one had a bad word about Cash. He wasn't afraid to share his Lord with his colleagues and they weren't ashamed to give him credit.

If I were a moving goer, I would love to see it.

Like I said, there was a bit of exaggeration, but it didn't portray her as a viscious shrew. The movie did a good job at making her human. That's what I was getting at. I think any movie based on any true story is going to take a bit of dramatic liscense. This, of course, bothers some more than others. Did you like the movie otherwise, (just curious)?

 

No, I didn't. I'll admit it was very well acted. But lies are lies, whether or not they get called "artistic liscense".

Johnny Cash is a mighty giant of a hero of mine. I love his songs, and his voice. I don't see why we have to manipulate his life story to sell movie tickets.

 

It is the nature of the human flesh, Curtis. It was passed down from Adam and Eve and 'man's original sin'.

Man has to denigrate anything or anyone that man disagrees with even when man knows deep down in his heart he is wrong.

It is called giving in to the flesh.

 

We rented and watched the DVD last night. Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon were awesome. Bro. Curtis has wrapped up my take on the rest.
