I had noticed a while back that there existed a thread about Walter Martin's assessment of Seventh-day Adventism. In 1956, in the lead up to Questions On Doctrines it was the determination of Walter Martin that the Seventh Day Adventists who held to the things that the SDA Leadership was saying to Walter Martin - must be classified as Christians and not a cult.

Later on, there were some issues which caused Martin to "re-evaluate" the SDA Church. There was a hard core of individuals in leadership within the SDA Church that was enraged about the concessions SDA Leadership gave Martin - these individuals were indignant and fought hard to retain Ellen's position in the SDA Church as a canonical Interpreter of Scripture along with the historic SDA creature Christ doctrine. Had Walter Martin not died he likely would have negatively classified the SDA Church as a cult - at least the membership of it that advocated the creature Christ teaching.

The SDA is a quasi/pseudo-Christian cult, founded largely by William Miller, Ellen G. White & her hubby, & Joseph Bates. EGW became its leading spokesperson, doing "damage control" after the failure of Miller's prophecy that Jesus would return in 1844.

They're a sneaky outfit, "having a form of godliness, but denying its POWER". They openly express "orthodox" beliefs, such as salvation by Jesus, the teachings of Scripture, & baptism. Like rodent poison, they're 99.5% "orthodox", but .5% poison. And, same as "Just One Bite" or "D-Con", they "kill rodents". At first, they don't tell ALL their doctrines & beliefs to new or prospective members til they believe they're fully "in the fold".

Here are JUST A FEW of their false doctrines & beliefs:

. Jesus is the archangel Michael. They believe this, while OPENLY saying "Jesus is God" to new or prospective members.

. Ellen G. White was a prophetess, despite her several failed prophecies. A TRUE PROPHET OF GOD'S was always 100% spot on.

. They demand vegetarianism because EGW demanded it, DESPITE SCRIPTURE'S TEACHING OTHERWISE. And EGW didn't follow her own prescribed diet, which often causes illness, vitamin deficiencies, & malnutrition among its adherents.

. They believe the lost will be totally annihilated, soul & all, rather than spending eternity in the lake of fire, as Scripture teaches.

Again, this is a SHORT LIST of their falsehoods. So, who do YOU wanna believe - a failed "prophetess", or GOD'S WORD, which is 100% correct ?

"Different theologians have found it difficult to assess Seventh-day Adventists today. We ourselves would by no means conclude that the movement is a »cult in the way that we have defined it in this volume, especially given some of the changes that have taken place among the “evangelical Adventists.” There is a tendency toward legalism that has informed the development of some of its key doctrines. Its growth has been significant and its contributions to education and hospital ministry have been significant in the Protestant world.
The late Walter Martin is credited with forging groundbreaking work among SDA scholars both in academic dialogue and in restating their theology in Protestant terms. The culmination of his work is found in a rather lengthy chapter of Kingdom of the Cults (2003), where SDA is found in an appendix."

Yes, In addition to the things you mentioned they believe is one of the worst.

Belief that Jesus was capable of vice (sin) and that had the Son of God (who they claim in Michael) sinned the Father would have annihilated Christ and it would have been as if Christ never existed in the first place. This is a difficult belief to reconcile with even a loose understanding of the Trinity Doctrine.

Walter Martin was wrong about them, as they mix Law and Grace, and hold that one must keep the Sabbath and certain rules to be saved, and elevate Ellen White to level of the Apostles themselves!

I don't trust Walter Martin but have his Kingdom of the Cults from way back. He holds to the incarnate Son version of the Trinity the last I checked. And is cozy with the Charismatics. So I read him cautiously.

All one needs to know about SDA is that their church guidelines condone abortion and their Adventist hospitals and clinics are abortion mills. They worship Moloch. They will immediately blame cultural Catholic judges for their abortion mills. 'The demonic Cat'lics made us do it!'. But, they alone determine whether or not they murder the unborn. Look no further than their pro-abortion teaching to determine if SDA is a stench in the Lord's nostrils. Btw, the indifference of so many in this board to the holocaust that occurs day in and day out is sad.

I absolutely agree that abortion is the direct opposite of what God wants / expects His creation to do - the worst of all things to be sure.

As 1689Dave, Yeshua1 & robycop3 agree there are some serious problems there. I recently stumbled onto a lengthy video whereas an SDA by the name of Herbert Douglas (who asserts he was part of the work product of the 'Questions on Doctrines book'.

what Douglas claims on this video strongly supports that the SDA Administrators who were working with Martin in 1956 were honest and forthright in their dealings with Martin - HOWEVER, Douglas is equally explicit that the general view of the SDA Church apart from the SDA Church Administrators who authorized the statements that stuck in Q.O.D. exercised intentional "malfeasance" to rape or otherwise dilute SDA Doctrines so that they [the SDA Doctrines] would be more palatable to Evangelical Christians.

The video can be seen here:

IF Douglas is accurate in what he said it looks like the SDA Church leadership back in the late 1950's did try to do a course correction on their doctrine to presumably bring it more in line with Scripture BUT hard core elements within the SDA Church rallied their supporters and jerked the denomination back into compliance with Ellen White - who made multiple statements that would have made Arius swell up (to the point of popping) with pride.

You know I agree with everyone on here and there is much blame to go around, on both sides of the coin... I know many God fearing SDA's and some not so much... And the same thing can be said from all denominations there is some good and some bad... We seem to be a Christian culture that want to talk about the bad... This board as long as I've been on here accentuates the bad... I myself will not excuse myself I'm as guilty as the rest but brethren where is the good?... The I am better than they are solves nothing... When I think like that I need to take a good look in the mirror... I may not believe as others do on here but I do not condemn their church... When Jesus caught Mary Magdalene in the very act of Adultry he said to those she was with... He who is without sin, cast the very first stone?... Some brethren on here have too many stones... Wheat is growing among the tares... Don't harm the wheat!... Brother Glen:)

Do large segments of the Baptist Church posit that Jesus could have failed to make it to the crucifixion event without sinning and had that happened God would have eternally annihilated Christ? I would put forth that this isn't a matter of throwing stones - it's just a matter of trying to understand how it is that within the SDA Church its permissible to openly teach such doctrines?

Well, yeah, so did the whole of the Reformation and those before them, as cited previously:

"In fact, many learned and godly men and women, from all over history, who have deeply and prayerfully studied their Bible, and even translated Bibles, wrote lexicons, dictionaries, studied many languages, disagree with you. The ones who agree with you is the Roman Catholic Church, hence the point of my previous comment on the subject of this forum.

Douglas was eyewitness of the events. I was also present personally for that taping (just before he passed) to hear the history therein given from his personal perspective, and knew Douglas face to face, even as I knew Dennis Priebe 'face to face' (pun intended).

There was indeed Jesuits among the church and simply ecumenically minded (confused) persons in leadership (not all, such that were against was M. L. Andreasen, and wrote the "Letters to the Churches" - http://www.sdadefend.com/MINDEX-Resource Library/Letters to the Churches.pdf )

Even Ellen White herself wrote of what was to take place:

    "... The enemy of souls has sought to bring in the supposition that a great reformation was to take place among Seventh-day Adventists, and that this reformation would consist in giving up the doctrines which stand as the pillars of our faith, and engaging in a process of reorganization. Were this reformation to take place, what would result? The principles of truth that God in His wisdom has given to the remnant church, would be discarded. Our religion would be changed. The fundamental principles that have sustained the work for the last fifty years would be accounted as error. A new organization would be established. Books of a new order would be written. A system of intellectual philosophy would be introduced. The founders of this system would go into the cities, and do a [205] wonderful work. The Sabbath of course, would be lightly regarded, as also the God who created it. Nothing would be allowed to stand in the way of the new movement. The leaders would teach that virtue is better than vice, but God being removed, they would place their dependence on human power, which, without God, is worthless. Their foundation would be built on the sand, and storm and tempest would sweep away the structure. {1SM 204.2}

Who has authority to begin such a movement? We have our Bibles. We have our experience, attested to by the miraculous working of the Holy Spirit. We have a truth that admits of no compromise. Shall we not repudiate everything that is not in harmony with this truth? {1SM 205.1} ..." - 1 Selected Messages 204.2 - 205.1

    Further she wrote:

    "... That night I dreamed that I was in Battle Creek looking out from the side glass at the door and saw a company marching up to the house, two and two. They looked stern and determined. I knew them well and turned to open the parlor door to receive them, but thought I would look again. The scene was changed. The company now presented the appearance of a Catholic procession. One bore in his hand a cross, another a reed. And as they approached, the one carrying a reed made a circle around the house, saying three times: "This house is proscribed. The goods must be confiscated. They have spoken against our holy order." Terror seized me, and I ran through the house, out of the north door, and found myself in the midst of a company, some of whom I knew, but I dared not speak a word to them for fear of being betrayed. I tried to seek a retired spot where I might weep and pray without meeting eager, inquisitive eyes wherever I turned. I repeated frequently: "If I could only understand this! If they will tell me what I have said or what I have done!" {1T 577.2}

I wept and prayed much as I saw our goods confiscated. I tried to read sympathy or pity for me in the looks of those around me, and marked the countenances of several whom I thought would speak to me and comfort me if they did not fear that they would be observed by others. I made one attempt to escape from the crowd, but seeing that I was watched, I concealed my intentions. I commenced weeping aloud, and saying: "If they would only tell me what I have done or what I have said!" My husband, who was sleeping in a bed in the same room, heard me weeping aloud and awoke me. My pillow was wet with tears, and a sad depression of spirits was upon me. {1T 578.1} ..." - Testimonies to the Church, Volume 1, pages 577.2- 578.1

What took place was literally betrayal with a kiss. Walter Martin and Barnhouse both later regretted their position afterwards.

This is all simply history, and available for anyone who desires to read into history of various faiths.

    Alofa,

Consider what you're saying here. You're asserting that "the Jesuits" infiltrated the Administration of the SDA Church and executed a conspiracy to lead the SDA Church away from believing it was VITAL for Christians to believe that Christ could have sinned and lost His Salvation and that it was equally VITAL for Christians to believe that the reason Jesus came to earth was to vindicate God's holy 10 commandment law because Lucifer had shoe-horned God into a pickle of a dilemma by tricking Adam and Eve? Is this really what you're saying?

Walter Martin was wrong about a lot of things:

    #12

[Time Index: 12:25 – 13:32] Did Jesus enter the Most Holy Place of the Heavenly Temple before October 22, 1844?

Ellen White says, “No.” (according to the video) and cites Early Writings, page 42:

“I was shown that … the door was opened in the most holy place in the heavenly sanctuary, where the ark is, in which are contained the ten commandments. This door was not opened until the mediation of Jesus was finished in the holy place of the sanctuary in 1844. Then Jesus rose up and shut the door of the holy place, and opened the door into the most holy, and passed within the second veil, where He now stands by the ark.” - Early Writings, page 42

The Bible says, “Yes.” (according to the video) and cites Hebrews 9:12:

Hebrews 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

The narrator then reads another onscreen statement [Time Index 13:13 – 13:32]:

“This Bible text was written in 60 AD, and it states that Jesus was already ministering in the Most Holy Place of the heavenly sanctuary at least 1,800 years before 1844. Ellen White's scenario simply contradicts the clearest scriptures!”

Firstly, Heb 9:12, even by the citation on the video, doesn't say “Most Holy Place”. Not in any language of the preserved mss, etc does it say it either. Not even in the UBS and N/A text notations on extant mss.

Heb 9:12 ... once into the holy place ...

    Heb 9:12 GNT TR - ... τα αγια ...

What did the text say plainly? “once into the holy place (ta [h]agia)”. Not “Most Holy Place” ([h]agia [h]agion).

There is not a single extant mss, codici or papyrii, [etc] written in Koine Greek [or in any language] that reads "αγια αγιων" [the Most Holy Place, see Hebrews 9:3 KJB, GNT TR] here in Hebrews 9:12, but plainly reads in all known extant mss, etc in any language, "τα αγια" [the sanctuary, ie first apartment, the holy place].

the Latin [Jerome's Vulgate] reads, "in sancta",
    the Wycliffe reads "the holy",
the German Luther Bibel 1545 reads, "das Heilige",
    Stephanus 1550 reads, "τα αγια",
    Scrivener's 1894 reads, "τα αγια",
and even Westcott's and Hort's 1881 reads, "τα αγια",
the UBS 5th reads, "τὰ ἅγια",
the Novum Testamentum Graece 28th [Eberhard Nestle's / Kurt Aland's, etc] reads, "τὰ ἅγια" without a single footnote in either 'scholars' work indicating any deviation from this reading in any known extant mss, etc.]

    Futhermore:
    Heb 8:2 KJB - ... the sanctuary ...
Heb 8:2 GNT TR - των αγιων ...

    Heb 9:1 KJB - ... sanctuary.
    Heb 9:1 GNT TR - ... τε αγιον ...

    Heb 9:2 KJB - ... the sanctuary.
    Heb 9:2 GNT TR - ... αγια

    Heb 9:3 KJB - ... the Holiest of all;
Heb 9:3 GNT TR - ... αγια αγιων

    Heb 9:7 KJB - ... into the second ...
Heb 9:7 GNT TR - ... δε την δευτεραν ...

Heb 9:8 KJB - ... the holiest of all ... the first tabernacle ...
Heb 9:8 GNT TR - ... των αγιων ... της πρωτης σκηνης ...

Heb 9:24 KJB - ... the holy places...
    Heb 9:24 GNT TR - ... τα αγια ...

Heb 9:25 KJB - ... the holy place...
    Heb 9:25 GNT TR - ... τα αγια ...

    Heb 10:19 KJB - ... the holiest ...
    Heb 10:19 GNT TR - ... των αγιων ...

    Heb 13:11 KJB - ... the sanctuary....
Heb 13:11 GNT TR - ... τα αγια...

Rev 15:5 KJB - ... the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony...
Rev 15:5 GNT TR - ... ο ναος της σκηνης του μαρτυριου ...
The error of the author/narrator of the video stems from Walter Martin (at least):

"Walter Martin", let me show a few errors he made about what he stated, on tv, even the John Ankerberg "show", in regards Heb 9:12, in the Koine Greek:

[John Ankerberg Show, with Walter Martin and William Johnsson [Review and Herald], time index 00:33:16-00:33:57] -

"... [George E. Canon reading the [Koine] Greek New Testament, Heb 9:12, in the presence of Walter Martin and others at a selective closed meeting of (so-called) 'scholars'] that Jesus Christ entered once into the holiest of all with his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption for us. ...", and I [Walter Martin] asked the question, and 'Canon' did too [to the present persons meeting], "Did this [event of Heb 9:12] take place, as [O.R.L.] Crosier said, as Mrs. [Ellen G.] White said, as the early Adventists taught? Did it [event of Heb 9:12] take place in [AD] 1844, or did it [event of Heb 9:12] take place at the ascension of Jesus Christ [AD 31]?" [Walter Martin continues apart from the past quotation and questions asked then] The [Koine] Greek text says, at the ascension of Jesus Christ [AD 31]. Once into the holiest of all - the Most Holy Place! ..."

Seventh-day Adventists, including O.R.L. Crosier [Day Star Extra, February 7th, 1846, you may read in full here - The Sanctuary, Table of Contents -- Ellen G. White Writings ], and especially sister Ellen G. White, do/did not teach, and have never taught, that Heb 9:12 happened in AD 1844.

The event in Heb 9:12, took place in AD 31, at Christ's Ascension from the Mount of Olives, which parallels Psalms 24:1-10, 133:1-3; Revelation 5:5-6, etc. Seventh-day Adventist do however teach, that the text of Daniel 7:13, and the events therein, took place in AD 1844, based upon the ending of the 2,300 prophecy of Daniel 8:13,14,26, 9:24-27, 11:31-33,40, 12:7-13; Revelation 9:13-15; 10:1-11, etc.

    The Great Controversy 1888 & 1911, page 421 -

"... Thither the faith of Christ's disciples followed him as he ascended from their sight. Here their hopes centered, “which hope we have,” said Paul, “as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest forever.” “Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.” [Hebrews 6:19, 20; 9:12]

For eighteen centuries this work of ministration continued in the first apartment of the sanctuary. The blood of Christ, pleaded in behalf of penitent believers, secured their pardon and acceptance with the Father, yet their sins still remained upon the books of record. As in the typical service there was a work of atonement at the close of the year, so before Christ's work for the redemption of men is completed, there is a work of atonement for the removal of sin from the sanctuary. This is the service which began when the 2300 days ended. At that time, as foretold by Daniel the prophet, our High Priest entered the most holy, to perform the last division of his solemn work,—to cleanse the sanctuary. ..." - The Great Controversy, Page 421 -- Ellen G. White Writings

The Desire of Ages, page 166 -

"... The sacrificial service that had pointed to Christ passed away; but the eyes of men were turned to the true sacrifice for the sins of the world. The earthly priesthood ceased; but we look to Jesus, the minister of the new covenant, and “to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.” “The way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing: ... but Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, ... by His own blood He entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.” Hebrews 12:24; 9:8-12. ..." - The Desire of Ages, Page 166 -- Ellen G. White Writings

Walter Martin [and assoc., including John Ankerberg] was/and still are dead wrong, on both counts, and even the (so-called) LXX in Exo 26:33 disagrees with him [them].

Exo 26:33 KJB - And thou shalt hang up the vail under the taches, that thou mayest bring in thither within the vail the ark of the testimony: and the vail shall divide unto you between the holy place and the most holy.

The "holy place" [τοῦ ἁγίου] is separate [by a second "vail" [καταπέτασμα]] from and not the same as the "most holy" [τοῦ ἁγίου τῶν ἁγίων].

Yes. There are plenty of types in scripture, such as Balaam and Balac and the Moabite women. There was a Judas among the Apostles. There are betrayals all over scripture. Why should it be any different in the modern times, especially in understanding the Jesuit order, and M. L. Andreasen and others had evidence of such, and reported it. Not so strange knowing about the Jesuit Counter-Refomation, and Trent, etc.

If you would notice, the blame was not entirely upon external 'forces'. The ecumenical minded were also included, and as such, certain specific persons of the leadership of the Seventh-day Adventist movement desired to be seen in the eyes of the world like them to gain more persons for the kingdom. Mixed motives.

It was not more different than B. B. Beach giving a gold medallion to the human head of Roman Catholicism.

    Good stuff brother Glen.

Yes, we all need to consider ourselves as a tree with leaves and do a fruit inspection, before Jesus does it, by coming unto us by His Holy Spirit and searching or investigating us.

Rev_3:3 Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.

Rev_16:15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.

Already addressed here, feel free to read through - Roman Catholicism and the total abuse & murder of children (incl. abortion).

I don't intend to repeat it here, and it will be to your understanding if you go through it.

Pro_18:13 He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.

Still the same ol' pythons 'history' and 'theology' of Seventh-day Adventists. Having studied thoroughly the official Seventh-day Adventist doctrine, such have never taught in secret or open, in speech or writing anything resembling a theology called 'creature Christ doctrine'.

Why do you still say that, even though you have been shown over the years much evidence contrary to what you yourself put forth? If you are going to attack a theological doctrine, at least attack that which is reality, and not one imaginary.

Since you are a Roman Catholic, and stubbornly so, the issue is with your perceived expectation of Christ, which in reality is false.
