There are dozens of sites on the internet to get your personal information from, I use them all the time. the information comes from you haveing a published telephone number.

a side note, I use them when somoene calls and doesn't leave a message to find out who it was, either on my callwave, or by useing *69 on my telehone if they hang up on me.

 

if you have read my profile you see that i am a private investigator, so what your saying is true. however, there are not to many ways for you to stop that info getting on there.

Im a private investigator too and Christfollower is absolutley right. A lot of the info online comes from when you buy things on credit and your Social Security Number.

IamBlessed- that is a good step but it wont help very much. unless you move around a lot or a hermit on the side of a mountain with no social security number, date of birth, parents, friends, etc. someone can still find you.

 

We've all (okay, those of us who have listed phone numbers) given our permission for that info to be there. Yes, Google has made it easier, but I can go to whitepages.com, get an address and go to mapquest and accomplish the same thing, just in more steps.

Anyway, if people are concerned, then I suggest getting an unlisted number.

 

unlisted phone numbers are good too but still not a lot of help if someone really wants to find you. Trust me, I do every day. Im doing right now actually(at work, not on the website, i am taking a break and this what i do when i get one)

 

All someone has to do is to look in a Houston, Texas phone book to find out where I live and to find out my phone number. I don't see any reason to keep this private. As far as I know, no one is looking for me. I don't think it would matter.

All they would have to do is stake out our local Walmart or Sam's Club, we will eventually be there.

 

Most of us are not trying hide, but to be safe.
Women are probably more concerned about this than men.

There is so much concern about identify theft.

Maybe you PI's could give us some additional hints on how to stay safe.

I'm still afraid to do online banking or bill paying. Is this safe to do?

I buy online but try to buy from very few companies that I believe are safe. Am I dreaming?

 

If they steal my identity, all they will get is more bills in their mail. Maybe the will pay them for me.

 

I notice both PI's live in Georgia. Is there something we need to know about Georgia or is it a coincidence?

BTW, any helpful tips would be appreciated unless you don't want to give away tools of your trade.

 

I'm not too concerned. I've been listed for years, plus, when I bought my house, my realty info became a matter of public record.

I don't see why not. I've been doing it for three years. So far, no one has offerred to pay my bills for me

Seriously, that kind of information is transmitted usng variables that don't leave the server sites. The data that you see on the screen is encrypted. You can trust me on this one: I'm an intranet web developer. It's darn near impossible to intercept financial info via secured data transfer. The best way to prevent it is to refrain from including such information in email.

We both work for the same place and attend the same church. We grew up together.

Here are just a few tips:

1 Have your number unlisted
2 Do not accept calls from a blocked number
3 If someone calls you to verify your address from a parcel service, hang up. parcel services do not do that over the phone.
4 have your mailing address go to a PO Box or a place like Mail Boxes Etc.
5 Make sure you never get locked up, if have been we can find you in 5 minutes.
