Was Job slighted?

While Job was a picture of great patience (which certainly is produced by faith), Hebrews 11 seems to be putting emphasis on faith producing action in those who believe a promise. Not all faith requires action, like resting in the finished work of Christ for our redemption. But some things, if we believe them, ought to compel us to works.

If you take a look at the named list, everyone after Noah was Jewish (figuring Abraham as the father of the Jewish people). Job lived after Noah. He was not Jewish, not in the line of the Hebrews.

The writer to the Hebrews is recounting Hebrew history to them.

There have been so many people of faith, even in the Bible, that these are examples and not intended to be an exhaustive list. Too many and not enough time to list them all.

Heb 11:32 And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:

Yes Artimaeus, I understand verse 32, but come on....Job would be my #1 pick. But what helen says makes sense.

Helen,

Why do you say that Job was after Noah? Not sure I agree...

And, James (5:11) mentions Job by name, but not the others... Did he slight them?

One more thought. Hebrews 11 is the "Faith Chapter". Certainly Job's faith is evident, but it is his "endurance under suffering" that is the biggest headline for the life of Job.

So maybe he does not fit Hebrews 11 as well as the others...

I do not know, just a few quick off the cuff thoughts...
