Since church mouse guy has called the New York Times traitorous, I wonder if he applies the same language toward the conservative Washington Times that published the fact the the U.S. was tracking Osama bin Laden through his cell phone? After that was leaked, guess what? OBL stopped using it.

See page 127 of the 9/11 Commission report.

What kind of a mastermind would use a cell phone with the whole world supposedly trying to track him down?

Also on page 127 of the 9/11 Commissin report it is stated that CIA Director Tenet was told that more was known about bin Laden's network "than about any other top tier terrorist organization."

Mormon Harry Reid, Senate leader of the Democrats, has warned today that Santa Claus has been caught spying on American children. Reid said that computer experts at the headquarters of the National Democrat Party in Washington DC were able to break into North Pole computer files. They quickly concluded that Santa Claus has two lists of children: ones that have been naughty and ones that have been nice.

When confronted by NBC television news, Santa Claus admitted that he had such a list and that he was checking it twice.

The Mormons are calling for a congressional investigation since they have so many children by so many different wives.

Eleanor Clift of Newsweek asked Santa Claus why her name was on the list of those to get a lump of coal this year. Santa told her that she had blasphemed the reason for the season when she suggested that a cartoon of cigarettes should be given to the Infant Jesus for Christmas. Santa said that Eleanor was very naughty to suggest giving smokes to a baby and very blasphemous to mock a religion that she clearly does not believe in.

Mrs. Santa Claus then closed the interview because Eleanor would not stop talking and was off on a tangent defending Bill Clinton's philosophy of tobacco.

When NBC television asked Bill Clinton about the two lists, Clinton challenged Santa Claus to give his definition of "good." Bill said that he himself had been good, but one unnamed Republican source on Capitol Hill said that Bill Clinton was good okay, good for nothing.

The Washington Times was wrong, just as Robert Novak was wrong to "out" Plame. Conservatives can screw up. But I still don't care for the NY Times.

    The New York Timesis traitorous?

I actually read the Times, and that is not a valid assertion. Perhaps CMG is forgetting that Judith Miller made the case for the WMD's that didn't exist in the New York Times. What was the name of that source? Curveball?

As for the Washington Times, I am sure that we are all aware that the owner of this paper has been declared "Messiah." [Link] Then of course there is the detail given about this paper given by David Brock in his book Blinded By The Right.

Hope that both of you and yours are doing well,
    BiR

I am amazed so many conservatives have no problem with Bush spying on American citizens without court approval. Why do we wish to imitate China, Cuba, North Korea?

Not all American citizens are on our side during the war. We have traitors and spies and sleeper cells among us. Bush acted legally but his actions were compromised by the Democrats for political gain.

    Kiffen,

It's easy to throw out such comparisons. Do you know of anyone who has been imprisoned on such evidence who was not guilty? We are also like those countries by having a military--that doesn't mean that we "imitate" them. People in those countries are tortured for no more than questioning their government. Happening here?

Bush has used the "war on terror" to unleash the federal government without any regard for the US Constitution. There was never a declaration of war, but Bush is claiming "war powers". Will the conservatives still celebrate these "war powers" when Hillary is in office in 2008? Who will she be spying on? Will the government be able to spy on those pesky Christians using these "war powers"? Maybe the IRS can start putting bugs in all the churches to make sure they are not violating their 501c3 status.

It's not just those with Al Qaeda connections that are being spied on:

For more than a year, the A.C.L.U. has been seeking access to information in F.B.I. files on about 150 protest and social groups that it says may have been improperly monitored.

    Hi FTR,

You are correct but Bush's actions move us in that direction. The question is...Where will we be in say 10-20 years? I have friends in totalitarian countries that I email (I am so paranoid..I am afraid to mention the country names) and we have to watch what we write because their Government monitor their emails. I feel that Bush is just saying trust us...We are the good guys! The Federal Government has a habit of misusing and abusing trust. If this was Clinton, the GOP would be accusing him of breaking the Law.

There is some question whether Bush has broken the Law and if he did this story will only get bigger. I at one time had confidence in this President but he looks more and more like a LBJ.

    Greetings from North Carolina FTR,

Did you ever see the documentary Persons of Interest? Here are some of the people. [Link]

Although not necessarily related to the topic at hand, it shows that this can happen.

    Regards,
    BiR

You and your party have never accepted the war or supported the war. You have openly advocated a policy of withdrawal immediately. On that matter, you sleep with liberal Democrats and it is no accident that you are using the ACLU. I thank God that you lost the election and I call upon all Americans to reject your party.

Kiffin, Merry Christmas! LBJ wanted the Great Society and not the war. He and his party lost it for no good reason.

BiR, Merry Christmas! Nine Eleven also shows what can happen when you don't monitor your domestic enemies. When wars end, things tend to go back to normal. Until we control the borders, we have no alternative but to try and monitor the enemy within. Otherwise, you would not be able to fly around all over the country making a good living I suppose.

    JGrubbs,

Bush has used the "war on terror" to unleash the federal government without any regard for the US Constitution.

Do you deny we have been and are being targeted for terror attacks? Do you deny that the enemy has effectively "declared war" on us? Do you deny that there is a war on terror? Do you think there should be a war on terror?

There was never a declaration of war, but Bush is claiming "war powers".

How many times has the Congress declared war? IIRC correctly, four or five times. How many military actions has the U.S. been involved in? I don't know but far more than that, including Thomas Jefferson's war against the Barbary pirates. The history of the power to declare war is that it was not used to authorize war but only a statement under international law that changed the relationship between two countries so that military actions would not then be considered piracy or private acts (see The Powers of War and Peace by John Yoo, in which he discusses that history).

Will the conservatives still celebrate these "war powers" when Hillary is in office in 2008? Who will she be spying on?

JG, I must certainly concede this is a good point.

Maybe the IRS can start putting bugs in all the churches to make sure they are not violating their 501c3 status.

    A false argument.

For more than a year, the A.C.L.U. has been seeking access to information in F.B.I. files on about 150 protest and social groups that it says may have been improperly monitored.

I'm not entirely comfortable with it but I don't care who gets monitored. I agree with CMG that it is important to do so.

    Hi Kiffen,

I have friends in totalitarian countries that I email (I am so paranoid..I am afraid to mention the country names) and we have to watch what we write because their Government monitor their emails. I feel that Bush is just saying trust us...We are the good guys! The Federal Government has a habit of misusing and abusing trust. If this was Clinton, the GOP would be accusing him of breaking the Law.

First of all, God bless you for your E-mail contacts there and I'm sure and pray that those contacts give them strength and encouragement. Again, you raise a good point about Clinton. On the other side of that, though, there would still be a war against terror (at least I hope so) even if Clinton were President--terrorist would still be making war against us. Perhaps the answer there is to keep an eye on such activites and guard against their abuse in targeting innocent individuals for political purpose as in Filegate.

Again, Merry Christmas, BiR. I hope you're going to get to be home for the holidays (or is NC home? I checked out the website (personally, I think it is directly on topic) and would like to check it further, including whether there is another side to any of those accounts, i.e., whether there was credible evidence that led to their detainment.

I pray for your safe travels.

All you silly Republican Bushites . . . don't you know that this "outing" is the tip of the ice berg? There are over 100 secret executive orders of which this was only one. They are the true law under which we are governed, not the Constitution.
