We don't have one. We tried it once in 1999/2000 but by the time it got to the final session, we had 6 people there between the families with children and the seniors.

There is no push from people to have one and, if given the choice, I wouldn't go.

Watchnight Service

A church service held on New Years eve - and bringing in the New Year with fellow Christians

A few years ago, I asked for recommendations, and ( I think it was Dr. bob) it was mentioned to be having communion at the stroke of Midnight. So we did - and I think that was a great ideal

Our church does not have a service.
I have not been in a church that had an actual service.

Most of the churches I have been a part of, except this one, just have a fellowship night. This is a potluck and game night that usually starts about 7:00 PM and ends at 12:30. People come and go as they want, or need. Sometimes there is a short devotional offered...but that is rare.

We won't be attending the service. Too many drunks out on the roads tonight.

All the years I have been a Christian there have been only a couple of churches that have had Watch Night services. I believe that I have only gone to three or four- mostly because as a staff member (or guest speaker) I was required to be there.

I'm not a fan. I much prefer staying home and off the road. Plus I can get so much more work done around the house on New Year's Day if I don't stay up so late.

As to the drunks you have a point. Even when I was a drunk we would call it "amateur night" for a reason.

Our last church was on an off street and I could take a back road straight there and back. Still, I tried to be home by 1 AM, since the bars close at 2 AM here.

Our church is having a service, but it's mostly for the younger folks. They are going to have refreshments (no alcohol) and play games, singing...

I'm not going, I will be in bed well before 12 o'clock. :tongue3:

The best part of a watchnight service is after it ends - about 1215 am- I run to the fellowship hall and yell "I'm starved - I havent eaten since last year!":thumbsup:

As far as the drunks - most of them wil be at the bars until 1 or 2 am.

We are unable to have one this year - I trust we can do it next year.

No i would not attend. IMO all church services should be about wanting to come for one reason and that is worshipping God rather than calling attention to titles of why people should be there.

I have been to "watchnight" services and activities at church the years we have done it. This year the church I attend didn't have anything. One church that I have been connected with had a social activity, but I ended up choosing to go see a Tosco Show at a theatre in Charlotte. John Tosco has music parties, but tonight's show was a variety show like Ed Sullivan used to have.
