So today was our "Praise in the Park" which is a day that we take church to the village park. It's in Northport's bandshell - so right in the heart of Northport. DH and his team did the worship, we had the Daughters of Zion (a young girls' worship team who do dance, tambourine, flags, streamers, etc to assist in worship), and the VBS characters. There was also a mime done by a few of the youth (search on youtube for "everything" mime and you should see it by other churches).

So anyway, after the whole thing was over, a woman came up to DH to speak to him. She was older and said that she really enjoyed the evening and asked "Are you professionals?" DH explained that they were part of the worship team at church and while some of the members were teachers and such, none were "professionals".

So she answers, "Well you could have fooled me. I'm Billy Joel's mother and I can tell you that you sounded very professional to me. What church are you from? What time are your services?"

    !!!!!!!!!!

Now, he didn't tell her that Billy's former drummer Liberty DeVito used to be our drummer but he did thank her and invited her to come to church.

What a hoot!! My hubby's team IS very good - but that's not their goal. They don't even really practice much (most of the guys are good enough to know their jobs) but their goal in all they do is to glorify God. How neat to be able to possibly use their music to reach this dear woman (and any other men and/or women who came today). The Gospel was given so who knows who might someday be in heaven because of today!

    Just thought I'd share!

That's a great story. But don't be too surprised if there is some comment saying this can't be really "of God" because it involved dancing, percussion, being entertained and 'liking' what was seen and heard, ...

Oh I'm sure I hear those rumblings under there..... LOL

And I certainly don't look at a worldly view of "good" as being a great compliment and showing that we're doing things right. What is right is when hearts are changed. :) But if someone comes to our church initially because they liked the quality of the music, then so be it. They'll certainly get the full story when they walk through the doors (if they missed it at the park).

I re-read it but am not sure of one thing. Did this village in the park day take place on a Sunday morning or a different day? Just curious because you said Billy Joel's mother didn't realize you all were from a church.

    That's a nice compliment!

It was on a Sunday evening at 6PM. We've been doing this for a number of years now - even had to take the village to court after being denied permission to do it based on the fact that we were a church. We use it as an outreach and a time to get out info on VBS (we gave out bottles of bubbles to all the kids in the park/playground with info on our VBS), as well as info on the church (we set up a table on the side). We had a number of people come by and watch and we each heard great comments about the stuff that they saw/heard. It wasn't "in your face" but the Gospel was there clear as day. :) We ended up with some visitors at church this week and we've had over 70 kids sign up for VBS through the website which was advertised in the local paper and at the park. Pretty cool!

Hey, did you know BJ's wife is from WV?

    Very sweet girl...

    Very good Annsni!

Is this "everything" you are talking about the "everything" done by Lifehouse? if so, our youth has it down pat also, they have performed it a couple times, and always gets a godly result...
