    Gwyneth wasn't sure where to put this, so she emailed me the clipping. It's somewhere between sad and horrid -- Tony Blair is prohibited from mentioning God or faith.

    Here are the first few paragraphs:

    Alastair Campbell has banned Tony Blair from talking about God in public, according to two 50th birthday profiles of the Prime Minister.

    Downing Street's director of communications is afraid that Mr Blair could sound too much like George W Bush, the born-again American President.

    Mr Campbell interrupted one interviewer's question about Mr Blair's Christian faith by reminding him: "We don't do God."

    On another occasion he and other senior members of staff vetoed Mr Blair's suggestion that he conclude his televised address to the nation at the start of the war against Iraq by saying "God bless you".

    The two incidents show the extent of the secular grip that Mr Campbell - an avowed atheist - exercises on his boss. He fears that religion is too sensitive an issue for the Prime Minister to speak about.

    What I wouldn't give for Blair to have had the presence of mind or guts or whatever to look right back and say, "I'm sorry. I don't do atheism..."

    Which is probably why I would never be elected to a post like that!

    I guess he forgot that Blair is also a committed Christian, something to which he professed during a tv interview. And he did so unashamedly.

    Blair is a professing Christian - I can see, however, why he would not mention God - the UK is one of the most secular societies on earth.

    This is a bit of a tussle going on between Blair and Campbell - Blair is on record as being a Christian - albeit one of the more Anglo-Catholic variety - and has also recently stated that he is answerable to God for his decision to go to war. I'm sure I can give you a link to that story if you want - but I don't have time right now.

    Every politician is a professing/Church going Christian...Right up until after the elections...

    Are you saying he's not?

    When the Prime Minister is asked by a an English reporter bout his faith, and his reply is (paraphrased) "I'm a devout Christian, and I have a firm faith as Christ as my Savior", I see no reason to dispute that.

    I agree John. It's unfortunate but predictable that there will always be someone who feels compelled to say something for the purpose of critisizing or questioning a person's faith and salvation.

    Let no corrupt communication procede out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. Eph. 4:29

    God knows the truth.

    I'm appreciative of anyone that says that they believe in God, especially someone who has the benifit of media attention. If a person wanted to be popular, they would be more inclined to take the side of the world and deny God's existance. God bless anyone who has the guts to not deny God in this day and age.

    Sorry my friend, I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one. Maybe that's how things are down under, and in some cases here, but our President has affirmed his Christian walk many times over, both before and after the election.

    Had a politician declaring to me how upset he was he did not get a personal invitation, as opposed to the general advertisements, to a forum in our church hall. (A senior member of the UK cabinet, Gordon Brown, chancellor of the Exchequer, was to be there!!) I duly gave him a sincere apology, assured him that all are welcome in the house of the Lord, and gave him a personal invitation to the church services on sunday. His reply "sorry, I'm not that kind of person."! (what kind of person does that make us?)

    I've often met that politician since and each time offer further personal invitations to the church,which is in the town he lives in. No acceptance yet.
