Looks like Massachusetts Supreme Court will be the first to decide on gay marriage in the USA

    The War Over Gay Marriage

In a landmark decision, the Supreme Court affirms gay privacy and opens the way to a revolution in family life

    NEWSWEEK

July 7 issue — It was a homey scene. standing in their warm kitchen on a winter’s day in 2001, Julie and Hillary Goodridge, a couple for 16 years, played the old Beatles song “All You Need Is Love” for their young daughter, Annie. Hillary asked Annie if she knew any people who loved each other. The little girl rattled off the names of her mothers’ married friends, heterosexuals all. “What about Mommy and Ma?” asked Hillary. “Well,” the child replied, “if you loved each other you’d get married.”

THAT DID IT. “My heart just dropped,” said Hillary. The gay couple headed for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health to get a marriage license. Julie was optimistic, Hillary less so. “I thought we’d be led away in handcuffs,” Hillary recalled. Blood tests and $30 in hand, they anxiously asked for an application. “No, you’re not allowed to,” responded the woman behind the counter. “I’ll need two grooms first.” Hillary and Julie asked to speak to the department’s director. The woman politely told them, “No, you can’t get married, and there’s nothing you can do about it.”

Actually, there was. With the help of the Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders (GLAD), Hillary and Julie sued for the right to be legally wed. Any day now, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court is expected to decide their case. No court in America has ever recognized gay marital vows. But last week Hillary and Julie—and every gay person who wants to be married or adopt a child or hold a job or receive a government benefit or simply enjoy the right to be respected—received a tremendous boost from the highest court in the land.

    Did they receive encouragement? Probably.

Did the Supreme Court minister's of God ruling make such legal? No.

    We live in interesting times.

I was surprised that Canada did take the step to solemise Gay Marriage, yet it has been happing in different European Countries for a while now.

Interestingly enough in the Pastors forum we had a discussion on weather or not the Church should do non Christian marriages, and there were a few people that said no that marriage was the job of the civil servant not the church. So really if that opinion is prevailing, should the church attempt to intervene in same sex marriages?

I say Yes because God created Marriage.

A mate of mine gives this definition for political correctness - "The belief that marriage is an outdated institution....except for homosexuals" :(

The Church is sleeping. There is a lion in the street and most pastors are afraid to go out and slay it.

    Read this:
Nowhere is this truth more shockingly portrayed than in this essay on the homosexual agenda, written by "gay revolutionary" Mark Swift and printed in the Feb. 15, '87 issue of Gay Community News. These excerpts are reprinted from the Congressional Record:

"We shall sodomize your sons....We shall seduce them in your schools, in your dormitories, in your gymnasiums, in your locker rooms...in your youth groups.... Your sons shall become our minions and do our bidding.... They will come to crave and adore us. All laws banning homosexual activity will be revoked. Instead, legislation shall be passed which engenders love between men. Our writers and artists will make love between men fashionable.... We shall raise vast, private armies...to defeat you. The family unit...will be abolished. Perfect boys will be conceived and grown in the genetic laboratory.... All churches who condemn us will be closed. Our only gods are handsome young men. All males who insist on remaining stupidly heterosexual will be tried in homosexual courts of justice and will become invisible men. Tremble, hetero swine, when we appear before you without our masks."

Using that kind of ludicrous rhetoric to represent the views of gay and lesbian persons is like using the vitriolic garbage of Fred Phelps to represent the views of Christians.

I know what I saw in Houston. All the perversion and filth and someone like you is promoting that there in Atlanta. God Help You. Not God Bless You. God Help You.

I think I have the "tremble, hetero swine" essay in a book of mine. I'll have to dig it out again. As I remember, it was meant to be hyperbole, showing the absurdity of the hetercentrist view.

Yes, I think you're right. The essay starts with "This essay is an outré, madness, a tragic, cruel fantasy, an eruption of inner rage, on how the oppressed desperately dream of being the oppressor.", but that part usually gets snipped off before people quote it, especially if they're quoting it for the purpose of making it look like this is some kind of universal gay belief system.

I have to agree with Joshua. The essay in question represents a sick mind of an extremist. I've seen this before and it does not represent the mainstream of the homosexual community.

That being said, there are some homosexual men that promote sexual relations with boys (children). That is sick!

There is a slippery slope here. If we allow laws that encourage homosexuality in general, what's next? "Man/Boy Love" protection laws?

Yes that is on the horizon. Who would of ever thought that 20 years ago we would be discussing sodomites marrying as a legitimate topic. THE SODOMITES DID WHILE THE CHURCH SLEPT!!!!!!

Jailmaster, I have to disagree with you about the church sleeping. The church has just been infiltrated by sodomites (some here on this board), and thus has become impotent (no pun intended).

It sickens me to see the Baptist Board filled with sodomites and those who promote a sodomite lifestyle. It repulses me and makes me want to quit posting. Are we tossing our pearls before swine who call themselves brethren but have no regard for what God says in His Word?

Just once I would like to have a discussion on this board without it being hijacked by sodomites and liberals. Just once. But that is the ulterior motive of some here - to water down and dilute any message of sin and wrongdoing so as to lead people to eternal hell. There are wolves in sheeps clothing - more today than ever before. And the sad thing is, people are being deceived into thinking they are saved and can continue living in sin because they acquired a head knowledge but did not have a repentant heart. And while the pro-sodomites frustrate us with their sodomite posts, all the while I have the feeling they are smirking with satisfaction when they log off. :( There is no witness of the Holy Spirit in their posts, no conviction about anything, sodomy, abortion, anything. It is always the liberal secular humanism point of view. Why is that?

There is a spirit at work in some of these posts, but it isn't the Holy Spirit. There is a spirit at work in some of our churches, but it isn't the Holy Spirit. God is just the same yesterday, today, and forever. He does not change with the times or with the political or social correctness of the day.

Christians are to be HOLY people, separated people. Not of the world or the world view.

I as pastor of a Southern Baptist Church in Mississippi will personally see to it that the church I pastor will draw up for adoption a church constitutional amendment that will state that our church recognizes marriages as between male and female only.

We have this coming Sunday a Deacon's meeting in which I will bring this matter up before them and draw up for the church business meeting the following Lord's Day--the amendment for the church's consideration---and God help us if it does not pass 100%.

God help us! That's all I can say!!! God help us! And I would advise any other Bible believing, Jesus loving pastor to follow my footsteps before we find ourselves being forced by the states we reside in to marry same sex couples--or risk lawsuits upon lawsuits---God help us!!

Do you, as a pastor, have to marry any heterosexual couple who asks, blackbird? Do you have to accept into membership any heterosexual who requests it? Baptize any heterosexual who wants baptism?

If you don't have to do these things for heterosexuals, you won't for homosexuals. It is at your discretion whom to marry, accept into membership and baptize, is it not?

Well, Kelly, if it's a Baptist church and not just a Southern Baptist church he's pastoring, he may need to guard against the day when his congregation instructs him to marry (to a another male) some gay nephew of a prominent deacon or something. By-laws may be the way to go.

    Haruo
who is not particularly politically correct (i.e. even though progay and straight, I am nonetheless shortly to be married)

    There are no guarantees.

The more legal hurdles that churches can put into place, the better.

Yesterday it was sodomy laws. Tomorrow it will be same sex marriage - these cases will end up at SCOTUS. And Bible believing conservative Christians know that the lastest SCOTUS ruling is a Pandora's box. Don't expect you to see it that way, though.

Well, I do certainly see that it opens the door for other things, but you're right, I don't have the "Pandora's Box" mentality about it.

Re the rest of it, maybe I'm wrong about the first amendment being in little danger. I mean, enough conservatives want to limit its realm, right?
