Some lawmakers are calling anew for the U.S. to relax its immigration laws -- not to provide sanctuary to illegal immigrants, but to ensure statistical accuracy.

The calls come as the Census Bureau prepares to kick off the 2010 Census. Critics argue that unless the government is willing to relax immigration laws, millions of people -- afraid to their share their personal information -- will be left out of the count.

U.S. Rep. William Clay, D-Mo., who chairs a House oversight subcommittee on the Census, said he plans to ask the Obama administration to suspend immigration raids over the next year.

Other criminals are probably also scared to answer the door. Shall we suspend enforcement on them as well? Why do illegal immigrants always seem to get some sort of special treatment? IMO, if a Census Bureau agent identifies an illegal alien they have a legel responsibility to inform immigration officials about it.

I say the census is a great time to round up some illegals and ship them back to where they came from!

Isn't it illegal for the government to share the information they obtain on the census?
I have a friend who works for social security, if illegals come in and apply for anything social security related (and I say this because I don't remember the details I was told), if they say they are illegal, they can not violate their privacy by telling another government agency (or anyone else for that matter) that this person is illegal.
So you have illegals known by the government who can do nothing about it, not even share the info with other government agencies.
this is how we have illegals getting so much government assistance here.

They may be true (and it doesn't surprise me at all), but it shouldn't be the way it is. That's the reason we have such a problem with illegal immigrants in this country.

IIRC, this was the exact problem before 9-11. The CIA & FBI (again IIRC) were barred by law from pooling information, which allowed the pieces of info to never get put together that would (MAY?) have prevented 9-11.

You might tell me some idiocy that our govt does that I didn't know about, BUT, you can't tell me anything that they do that surprises me!

And unfortunately, it seems that the criteria for a govt program is to be as far from common sense as possible; the more ridiculous, the better from the fed standpoint.
