    Has anyone had experience with the website monitor programs that are on the market? I have been looking at Covenant Eyes. What, if any, are you using?

    If you are familiar with Covenant Eyes, perhaps you can address my concern with it. Not only does it report websites visited, it reports emails. Does that mean that one's accountability partner can know to whom the user sends emails or see the actual messages?

    I am interested in such a program to put on our church computers. I do not suspect that anyone is visiting inappropriate websites or sending inappropriate emails. My interest is one of accountability that could provide safety for the staff and church. At the same time, I do not want the staff's confidential emails to be compromised.

    Any input is appreciated.

    Rather than use software to track peoples "private" movements on the net, you might consider blocking software to block undesirable sites.

    The software you spoke of seems rather worthless - if a person is going to go someplace they should not they probably would not use the church computer nor would they use a computer that is going "out" them to someone else.

    I'd think blocking software would be the better option.

    If you want records for proof later on of no wrong doing then your software might be something of interest and have all reports go to an outside party for storage but not accessing. That way if proof is needed it would be available. Your server keeps records of sites visited and I would guess destination of emails, though content might not be kept???? you would want to check on that. Give the server a call and see what they have record of and for how long - might be all you need for your purpose.

    Look into OpenDNS for the church (http://www.opendns.com/). OpenDNS allows you to set up filters that block stuff at the DNS before it comes to the modem. They offer a free one that should be more then enough for a church.
