Wedding Bands

Okay, so we've had this long discussion about Christmas being "non-biblical" and seemingly therefore abhorrent.

What about wedding rings? Are they against Christ?

They are a pagan symbol that many (most) Christians use to seal their Marriage Sacrement/Covenant (call it what you please).

Should we get rid of wedding rings? Or is it possible to use such a symbol - pagan as it my have been - in a wholesome and Christ centered fasion?

That is an interesting discussion. Yes Wedding Rings are Pagan, yet various people in the Bible wear rings, so the question might be which group had them first?

Shoes are Pagan also.
I'm glad I heard laced shoes are
the work of the Lead Devil.
I'm now using Christian boots or Christian
velcro tie shoes.

When any lady comes up to me I want my ring to shine in her face. I am proud to have my wife. I am blessed and do not want to even hint of anything that shouldn't be.

When I am working on electrical circuits I do not wear the ring. It goes in my coin purse until I am done. But I have never encountered a lady trying to get close to me while I am working on an electrical circuit.

Wedding rings were original pagan symbols, and are not Biblical. Some early reformers, including some Puritans and early Baptists, rejected them. However: symbols, like words, have context, and Christians today should have no problem wearing them because of the context in which they are worn, and what they symbolize.

Considering i am just days away from celebrating my 10th anniversary with my wife i proudly wear my wedding band as a symbol of our unending love (by God's grace alone) for each other.
God is the best part of our relationship, my wife is the 2nd best part...and i think they just keep me around because they feel sorry for me.

If they had pagan beginnings...so be it. I will still wear it so that the world will know that God has blessed me with a wonderful wife.

My wife and I used to sit side by side and post sometimes...until 6 months ago when she went off the deep end and decided to divorce out of our marriage.

It became final about a week or so ago so now my wedding ring is no longer there on my finger.

I am praying for God to change her heart and bring her back...or bring someone else into my life.

(I am one who believes the scriptures do support remarriage if your spouse abandons the marriage, and you are not specifically gifted for singleness)

God can...and does...work miracles. I hope He changes her heart. We get along fine. People at work see us together and if they dont know about it they would think we are still married. I kept her dog for her over the weekend while she was out of town with her Dad.

Oh well...we will see.

Thanks, I appreciate that.

It certainly made Christmas a bit "different", to say the least, but I've discovered...once again...that God is "more than enough". And He can cause us to live with a power that is not dependant on circumstances.

That doesnt mean there are no tears or hurting, because there is, but there is a very real difference when Jesus Christ is alive in you, and empowering you. I remember very well how it was in tough times back before I was born again, and there really IS a difference with Jesus, through the ministry of the Holy Spirit.

I honestly sometimes dont know how lost people make it through the really tough times without Jesus Christ to strenghthen them and give them victory over circumstances.

I remember debates back years ago about whether one should wear white gold or yellow gold as a wedding band. Trivial debates have gone on for years, so nothing new.

The wedding band is a symbol of eternality,,the complete circle. It is the badge of commitment. I can't wear mine for medical reasons, but carry it on a gold chain around my neck............with this ring I thee wed, to have and to hold, forever.........God being my helper.........

We can find so-called pagan origins in everything, including the Easter egg, which was used to demonstrate the trinity in 1600's England................yolk, white and shell = one egg. It was also used in pagan circles to demonstrate other demonic things.

Even the word "Easter" comes from the fertility goddess Ishtar.

And of course all 7 of the days of the week have pagan origins.

Saturday...Saturnalia. Sunday...the Sun god, etc.

I love wearing my wedding ring. My dh, on the other hand, has been meaning to buy a new one for about 8 years now! He wore it all the time before we went off to college, (after being married a year), where he played football. He was a defensive tackle and one day at practice he realized he left the ring on. He was worried that if he jammed his finger it would swell with the ring on, so he carefully placed it in the end zone next to a goal post. Needless to say he forgot all about it, until the next day, and by then it was gone. He was pretty upset about it, but I kind of thought it was funny. I persuaded him to wait until he stopped playing football before buying another ring, and he never got around to getting another one.
