    WV Mispelled

That is just a sign of disrespect for our state. Maybe next year, they need to have West Virginians process the shirt. I think we are the only people who knows how to spell our state and even recognize that we are state. I have had people ask me if we were western Virginia.

I hate to tell everyone this, but West Virginia is a state. And yes, I am wearing shoes.

    Hiya guy,

My father was a minister, and one of the churches he was a Pastor of was in Bluefield, WV. I enjoyed WV while there.

    Wild Wonderful West Virgina!

Maybe the "city slicker types" really wanted to spell it as "West Virginny", but were afraid to try that, being as some of the bigger BB 'names' and hoped for winners did not get there.

I think I read where WV in WWII gave per capita more men than any other State. I may be wrong but seems I read it somewhere?

I guess this is what I read.

Across the country there are more than 19 million veterans. Some 200,000 live in West Virginia, which has the highest number of veterans per capita in the nation. And every day, 1,500 U.S. veterans die before their histories can be recorded, before their stories can be heard

Thanks. I know how to spell, and I also knew (without Google) that West Virginia became an official state in 1863, and that it was part of Virginia until statehood. Don't paint with such a broad brush. And don't take things so personally.

There are those who say that WV did not legally become a State:
I found this on another board ( too much bad taste language for the BB)

Amendment X reserves the states right to succeed, as in no place does the constitution grant the federal government the jurisdiction to permit or decline the right to succeed. States in the US are not provinces, as in Canada, but rather independent lawmaking bodies whose citizens permit the federal governemnt to provide certain services on thier behalf such as defense and regulation of certain types of commerce.

When Virginia ratified the U.S. Constitution in June 1788, it did so with the provision, “that the powers granted under the Constitution, being derived from the people of the United States, may be resumed by them, whenever the same shall be perverted to their injury and oppression.” That is, the people of the states could withdraw their consent and “resume,” or reclaim, the powers delegated to the U.S. Government.

New York and Rhode Island ratified the Constitution with similar reservations of the right to “resume” or “reassume” the powers “granted” therein. Either these conditional ratification acts were valid, and the states retain the right to secede, or the acts were void, and Virginia, New York, and Rhode Island have never legally joined the United States.

My last point, the north did allow a pro-Union part of Virginia to secede from Virginia, which is how West Virginia was formed. Since Virginia never ceded that territory, as prescribed by the Constitution, that was the only real case of unconstitutional secession, which was completed by the Union. To make matters worse, the North never admitted that Virginia had legally left the Union. How, then, could it be split without its legal consent?

As I heard from someone else...

NIT-quality shirts for an NIT Championship.

    It's harsh, but somewhat amusing.

If you had to live with all the jokes you would take it personally too:laugh:

Seriously... We WVians take a lot of heat, and are stereotyped with a lot of misinformation.

There is not a harder working bunch in the union than WVians.
And the state is absolutely beautiful! (my part of the state is anyway)

I don't think he was painting toooo broad. Even Leno makes the jokes.
And I was in MD a few weeks ago, and a person I ran into up there thought I was from western VA.
