Westboro Baptist church.

It sickens me. That's not Christianity.

 

OH that poor soldier's family! Why in the world would they chose this venue to make a point? Bless the American Legion for their efforts to keep the funeral what it should be.

 

Too bad anybody can use 'Baptist' to describe
themselves.

Thier people from Kansas were trying to
influence legislation in Oklahoma Sunday,
16 Oct 2005. They picketed outside
the First Baptist Church of Del City during
the morning. There were about 2,000 showed up
for the worship service, 200 bikers to
protect the church property, 80 cops,
and six 'protesters'. Fortunately the 80 cops
protected the six protesters from
the 200 bikers and the 27 media reps.

 

Jesus loved people and hated sin, that is how christians ought to behave, we are not of this world with its violence and hatred.

God does not hate people that are Homosexuals, He loves them just as much as He loves you or I, and He hates there sin, yet He died for them just as He did for us that they might find that way of Salvation. Spewing hate at people that are into being Homosexual is only going to place stumbling blocks in front of them being given the Gospel.

Imagine if your sins were broadcast to the world and you were publically condemned and hated for what you did that God said was wrong? Imagine what it would be like to know that a group of Christians physically hate you.

 

I do not believe you can seperate the sin and the sinner. They are connected. God still loves the sinner. But when the sinner refuses to come to Him he gets his just reward. God forgives but he also punishes.

 

I'm not much of a letter writer, but I have contacted State Officials about this and hope that our legislature passes a bill to stop demonstrations at funerals. I can't tell you how angry this makes me that anyone would use the time of a family's grief for their own personal agenda.

I appreciate the bikers taking a stand against this type of demonstration.

The father of one of the deceased soldiers was very kind in his statement: "His son had died so these people could have freedom to demonstrate".

 

Westboro Baptist Church is a disgrace to grace!! All it does is bring shame to the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and throws a "monkey wrench" into the gears of everything that names itself with the name of Baptist---be it SB, IFB, AB---a shameful reproach to the Lord Jesus Christ!!!

 

Maybe this is one reason churches are taking "Baptist" out of their name?

 

Thankful, I have a friend that pastored in the same area as Westboro for a few years and their church removed "Baptist" from their name because of this very reason.

You mean we are giving up the name "Baptist" to people like Westboro??

People! Stand up!

PastorSBC, why didn't your friend stand up and make it a matter of public knowledge that his church did not and would not hold to such attitudes and actions as were found at Westboro, and that Westboro was in no way a true representation of "Baptist."

By giving up the name, I believe he helped to solidify in people's minds that ALL Baptists believe the way WEstboro does, and he no longer wanted to identify with BAPTIST.

I can't tell you how disappointed I am over this.

I have to kind of agree with Bapmom here.

Perhaps instead of giving up the name Baptist, we should instead be very clear about what we do believe and that we do NOT agree with churches like this. Then we should add to that, by refusing to cooperate or have anything to do with such a church. No joint "community" services, no assoiciational ties.

I believe by saying nothing and removing the name Baptist from our signs, that we give credence to the idea that that is what Baptist's are about.

 

I am agreeing with Bapmom & Menagerie here---I'm not ashamed to have Baptist as my "middle" name----

I heard of an old fella once---the young pastor went to visit him---there they were rocking in the front porch rockin' chairs

The young pastor asks

"Paw Paw!! What would you be if you weren't a Baptist??"

The old man thinks for a minute and then says

"Preacher! If I weren't a Baptist---I guess I would just be plumb ashamed!!!"

I am not going to even attempt to speak for my friend and his ministry. I trust that they did what they felt the Lord wanted in the situation.

Personally, I am proud to be a Baptist and to serve a church with Baptist in the name. However, I am first and foremost devoted to Jesus Christ. And whether Baptist is in the name of my church or not, that does not change.

He continues to love sinners.

Westboro came to our town recently. They are hateful, vulgar mouthed, rude - and the most unChristian people I've run into in a long, long time.

 

I am proud of the name Baptist, also. Did you note that these people were demonstrating iin front of the First Southern Baptist Church of Del City? And this was at their morning worship service, not at a funeral.

 

Personally Westboro does more to hurt Christianity and specifically Baptists, than any other entity I know of. We have a messageboard on the website for our film and members of Westboro descended upon it and caused a lot of ruckus. I generally answer around 50 emails a day concerning the film. I would say that at least 25% of these are concerning the hateful comments made by Westboro members. It is sad because many of these emails are about why Christians are so hateful and not to mention disrespectful. I feel blessed that I can relay that Westboro does not speak for all Christians, especially not all Baptists, and also tell them about God's love and forgiveness and salvation. It concerns me though, because I know there are probably many more who do not email, but equate all Baptists to Westboro, not to mention Christians.

 

I'm certain they do not speak for everyone.

 

I would expect to see something like that on a KKK site not on a church or Christian site.
