I have a chance of getting a nice motorcycle for a cheap price. My only concern would be what would the people in the church think? Do you believe some would be offended? I wonder how many preachers ride a bike?
I know we all have to have our hobbies or do something to take away the stress and pressure, but for me it is riding a bike.
As Bill O'Riely says, "What saith you?"
    Thanks.

I'd love to have one, but my wife says I don't have enough life insurance (or disability insurance, just in case it doesn't kill me).

    Go for it!

I'd agree with SBCPreacher, go for it...

But if you still have a question, go to a godly man in the church and ask. Personally, I think it is none of their business.

I agree. Did they ask you about the choice of the last vehicle they bought?

I have a lot of preacher friends that ride bikes...

Even one on staff at our state convention... He and his wife ride them everywhere.

    And the sin would be?

I find it moderately disturbing that this is even a concern, except from a safety standpoint. (I'd kill myself, for sure.)

A church culture that would cause to me question whether a motorcycle would offend the sheep must be stifling.

But if you do go for it, don't get some little scooter - get a man's bike, a big, loud one!

If you like to ride then get one. A bike can be a great outreach tool. Some guys will talk to you on your bike or ride with you that will never attend church. Use it.

BTW, I don't have a bike right now, but my wife does. So when I want to ride I have to borrow hers.

I wish I could get a motorcycle but the boss lady says no. So I will covet my neighbor's bike. Is that a sin?

I agree. If they have an issue with your getting a bike, they need a hobby or something. Perhaps they could get a motorcycle...

My pastor in our old church rode a bike, nothing wrong with it IMO.
I love ridin my 2008 HD Firefighter Ultra Classic. My Wife and I put
about 15,000 MI a year riding. I sold my old Harley , it had 57,000 on it.
There are alot of motorcycle ministries around.

LOL! If one of our pastors got a bike the rest of the men in the church would be telling their wives "But honey, even the preacher has one!"

Be prepared to start a trend in your church! :D

I understand your point. Some folks may put bike riding in the same catagory with being rebelious and being a hoodlum. My sweet mom use to be of this line of thought. Now she understands the culture around riding includes folks from all walks of life.

I say get one, and enjoy the ride. Just dont take any deacons to Sturgis!

I know of a church in Milwaukee, WI (the home of Harley-Davidson) in which most of the male staff have Harley's and ride them to church often in the summer. I think its really neat, and everyone has to have a hobby, but you are wise to check out whether it will offend anyone.

Ride it. You can always be spiritual about it and say the bike has better milage than a car. So, you're just being a good steward. This may not if the bike is a custom chopper.

The more I think about this JoeKan I believe you have some specific members in mind. My first impression, like many of those here, is hey there is nothing wrong with that, if you want a bike get one. But obviously you have some concerns. It is very easy for us to say any church member who would be offended should mind someone else's business. But you don't want to create problems in your church. I think you should go to some of these individuals ahead of time and talk to them. Do any other church members ride. Ask them for advice. Show them the bike you have in mind and ask their opinions. Once you get the bike go riding with other members. Get as many members of your church involved as possible. That gives you a firm support base when someone does object.
