in California ???

Voting NO on Prop 73. What parent in their right mind would want their child having an abortion without their consent ? I am sure these same parents would be outraged if their child had sex with someone much older. Too many liberals in Ca.

Meaning of Voting Yes/No

A YES vote on this measure means:
The California Constitution would be changed to require that a physician notify, with certain exceptions, a parent or legal guardian of a pregnant minor at least 48 hours before performing an abortion.

A NO vote on this measure means:
Minors would continue to receive abortion services to the same extent as adults. Physicians performing abortions for minors would not be subject to notification requirements.

Its California. . . . .

And obviously the parents bought into the lie that there is absolutely no medical danger at all. . . .

(Amazing how pro-abortion people forget the dangers of permanent damage to the womb, hemmoraging, infections.... )

A part of the problem in California is that the voters there are grossly ignorant of their own government for the most part. (I speak as a native Californian who lived there until the age of 30).

They very often don't take the time to find out what they are voting on. But THEN, MANY many times, the bills are written in such a way that a "yes" vote means the people are AGAINST the idea, and a "no" vote means they are FOR the idea.

EIther that or they are couched in such confusing legaleeze that people will vote to just leave things as they are without really paying attention to what they are voting for.
Ive seen it happen time and time again.

After all that, yes, there are way too many political liberals in CA! But not as many as you'd think, given their voting record.

No, it's the big bucks of Planned Parenthood. The "No on 73" folks evenwent so far as to buy url's like "yeson73.com" and "yeson73.org" to direct people to their own "No on 73" ad. Many people didn't even know that Prop 73 was on the ballot until the absentee ballots came. The number of "No on 73" ads ournumbered the "Yes on 73 ads some 5 to 1.

Still the proposition failed by rather narrow margins. 3,130,062 voted yes, while 3,465,629 voted no. A difference of only 350,000 votes.

In my own county, the prop would have passed (335,144 voted yes, 227,751 voted no).

There were 8 propositions on the ballot, and all of them failed (some by narow margins). This was due to the huge spending done by the special interest groups, such as the teachers unions, etc. They outspent their rivals by two or three times, or more.

Thas, plus low voter turnout, resulted in the faileure of the props, despite close margins.

Excelent question. This is not a "prochoice vs prolife" issue. It's a parental responsibility issue, and I can't understand what parent, regardless of their abortion views, would have been against prop 73. But, not all voters are parents.

I believe that this is a call to the church of the Lord Jesus Christ to not focus our attention upon the liberals and it being CA. But to focus our attention upon bended knees in prayer for this state and every state in the Union. This could every well happen all across our great land called America. So church of Jesus Christ let's cry mightily unto God and see the battle won for the cause of Jesus Christ our coming Lord.

...not all voters are parents.
And unfortunately, not all parents are voters

When I lived in Indiana (and I think it's the same for here in Illinois), a minor could get an abortion without any kind of parental consent, but if they wanted to get any kind of body piercing, that needed a signed consent form. Hmmmmmmmm, let's see; kill a baby, no big deal. Body piercing, big deal. What a crazy, mixed up world we live in.

God Bless!

I disagree, parents that voted to not to be notified voted this way because they see this prop as an attack on there "rights" to abortion. If the school nurse gave there kid an asprin with out there permision they would be outraged, they would sue and win the law suite. These parents were not thinking about the good of their children, their parental rights or the medical consiquences of the procedure. They voted with one thing in mind. Stop another attack on our "rights" to abortion.

Like HeDied4U said parents expect to be notified when their kids want their ear pierced. If the prop was to change that so kids could get there ear pierced with out permision it would have failed. This is prolife vs. Proabort, and anything the otherside sees a prolife they will vote against even if they are voting against their best interest.

Very good insights all

You are right Texassky if parents only knew the dangers their daughters could have by having an abortion. I know of a few women who only had ONE abortion and are now sterile because of it.

I also like the point that if liberals were to vote YES then they would be open to other changes.

In many states a young girl can get an abortion without parental consent but cannot take an aspirin without parental consent.

What can we expect. I don't mean to sound coy, but we have murdered ONE FOURTH of the babies conceived in this country since 1974. We have asked for a king (self rather than Saul), and we have him, and he is a monster. I love my country, but I fear its future...God would be remiss to let this all pass. He will not. We are picking the fruits of a Christian nation now, but I can't help but predict what fruits our children and their children will be forced to eat! Lord, please come quickly...and do whatever it takes to turn this country back to thee.

Just a thought...did anyone notice the national mood of repentance after 911, Katrina or Rita? We have become a nation of fools!

At some point the liberals will actually start paying for their view points. First because they will have to face God for the acceptance that murder of the innocent is okay. Second if they continue on the path that they have chosen they will eventually abort all of their constituancy. I mean how long can it last if they kill off their own and cannot pass on their ungodly values to their children.

I for one am totally against abortion. To me it is exactly like rioting because of the oppression in your community and instead of rising above the occasion you go and burn, loot, pillage and kill people in your own neighborhood because of anger and rage and demanding your rights.

Wait a minute - George Bush has done more to stop abortion in this country than any previous president. He passed the partial-birth-abortion bill, which is more than anyone else has done.

Why do you blame HIM for this?
