What are you currently preaching?

I have an expositional class at my church, and I am going verse by verse through Romans. My pastor announced that I anticipated completion in 2025.

 

Since July--I've been preaching a series I've called

"The BBBD!!"

Basic Baptist Bible Doctrine

Too many times us "Bab-batist" are accused of not knowing Bible Doctrine!---well, my church has no excuse after this series ends. Those who "hung in there" will know what it takes to "give account" of the hope that is in them---those who didn't "hang in there" won't know "diddlely!!"

Sunday nites---Footsteps of Jesus through the book of Mark

Wednesday nites---Hebrews 11---we've been on the chapter for a year now!!

 

I'm preaching a simple series on "What I Believe," giving me the opportunity to teach basic doctrine and practice to my people, all of whom were saved or received assurance of salvation comparatively recently.

 

Last Sunday I started a series on Sunday nights on the life of Elijah.

 

dh is doing the letters to the 7 churches in Revelation on Sun mornings.

 

Swaimj---do you have Arthur Pink's, The Life of Elijah?? Good book!

 

1. Detailed study on Ephesians

2. Messianic Psalms

3. Mini-Series on Gospel of John (If mini-series is possible)

 

Mornings - Looking at the vision God gave Ezekiel about the valley of dry bones, and how God restored them to life.

Evenings - Through the book of Acts...we're on week #6, still in the 2nd Chapter. Lot of good stuff in there!

 

just finished a series on the Basics of Christianity.... Now, after that I plan to begin on Baptist Doctrine.... hey Blackbird....

I am preacher not pastoring, but may I ask why it is taking some of you all so long to get through some of the studies. I prepare sermons almost on a weekly bases. TO be in HEbrews 11 for a year to me would cause me to run from the church. This is not meant to be a bash on those who take so long on a series, but I just wanted to know why.

I do not have Arthur Pink's book. I have access to several seminary libraries within a 10-mile radius of my house, so I'll peruse it next time I get a chance. Thanks for the tip!

 

I'm in 1 Thessalonians on Sunday mornings and in Exodus on Sunday nights.

 

I will be preaching tomorrow morning out of Titus 2:11 - 15 on Biblical Holiness.

The Lord reveals so much in Hebrews 11. Many pastors are given the ability of giving an expository sermon on each verse that can last for two services.

I knew a pastor that took that long to go through Psalm 34 once.

And the services were wonderful! If one is wanting a dinner, one does not mind so much wading in the deep water to catch the trout.

 

And you get away with a 4 hour service in 20th cent. America? I'm impressed, Dr. Bob!!

 

As long as the pastor doesn't go down too deep and come up too dry! There is a real art to expository preaching that can hold the hearts of the people. I once preached through Galatians in about a year (okay, I rushed)! I don't recall adding anyone through the preaching, but at least I didn't lose anyone! (Smiley face wiping his brow here.)

Seems like I heard once that W. A. Criswell built his church on expository preaching. Anyone know?

 

Yup, yup. Somewhere in the recesses of my files I have a copy of Criswell's 5 year preaching plan. That's right, he had his messages scheduled for 5 years in advance.

I am doing good to have mine 5 days in advance, but then I preach to a variety of people in a variety of places (1 church and 2 missions I preach at each week) so my messages for each place are custom made so to speak.
