What are you preaching?

I'm preaching "What if there were no resurrection?" 1st Corinthians 15:12-19

I. If Christ is not risen there is no faith. (v.12-14)
II. If Christ is not risen there is no forgiveness. (v.15-17)
III. If Christ is not risen there is no future. (v.18-19)

Conclusion. (v.20) "But now Christ is risen from the dead!!!"

 

The service tomorrow is a catchall, so from 1 Cor 15:1-8.

Theme: The Gospel is the Message of Easter

1. The Gospel is Biblical truth (vv 3-4)
2. The Gospel is Historical truth (vv 5-8)
3. The Gospel must be Personal truth (vv 1-2)

I like both sermon synopses so far. I will continue in 1 Cor 15 for the weeks following and have a Spring association meeting that will incorporate the post-resurrection appearance in Jn 20:19-23

 

I am going to spend a few minutes speaking about the Lord raising the only son of the widow of Nain, found in Luke 7:11-16. Then we are going to have communion.

 

Any Scripture or anything on the resurrection of our Lord, Cutter? Just curious.

An Evil Time, A Strong Woman, A Weak Man and a Victorious God

Judges 4 -

1. An Evil Time

a. Deborah came on the scene in an evil time—

b. The Nation was under the judgment of God—(Judg 4:1-3) “…


c. Bandits controlled the highways, people were afraid to leave their houses—(Judg 5:6-7) "

d. Israel faced a fearsome enemy, who was technologically superior—“…{2}

e. Chariots were the king of the ancient battlefield—

2. A Strong Woman

a. God’s People Cried Out—(Judg 4:3-5)

c. God Sent a woman Preacher

d. Deborah was the Judge e. Why? God had not found a man able and willing! Judges were picked by God, with no intervening human instrumentality

e. God’s Insult to the men of Israel— . “As for my people, children are their oppressors and women rule over them” (Is 3:12)


3. A Weak Man

a. Barak was weak—the test of his life, and he blew it (Judg 4:8)

b. Barak was not the only one!

(1) No Shows when the Shofar blew!
(2) If there were 40,000 men trained, where were they?

(3) God’s men had no weapons—

(4) Some Never Came—
(a) Reuben could not decide what to do….”

(b) Gilead stayed on their side of the River—

(c) Dan just stayed at home—

(d) Asher hung out in the Marinas and bays

4. A Victorious God

a. The Key Thing: Our God is a “man of war” –(Exo 15:3). (1) Jesus met several soldiers in His ministry, and he never told them to leave the military and disarm—He told them to do a good honest job as soldiers! (Luke 3:14)
(2) The defining description of an honest soldier—he is a minister of God(Rom 13:3-4)

b. Some Men Stood Up—

(1) Deborah Came Along with Barak and they raised an army
(2) Some did answer the call

(a) Zebulun sent some senior officers,15:14
(b) Issachar sent PRINCES,
(c) Zebulun and Naphtali were there where the battle was the hottest—15:18
(3) But there were more who stayed home than those who came and fought.

c. The Battle
(1) First, the leadership Got It Together, and enough followed—
(2) And those who came fought bravely 5:9 -13, 15-18
(3) But the Main Fighter Was God!

(a) God — It was dry season, perfect time for the enemy chariots,

(b) When the time came, God’s off-season rain came—

(i) God did not tell Deborah and Barak He was going to bring rain

(ii) God just told them to GO!

(c) 5:4

(4) Note this—It was dry season (how do we know that?) because chariots do not deploy in wet season! But see what God calls the dry river bed that was there before God brought the rain—

(Judg 4:6-7) “…
(a) God Set The Battle Plan

(b) God sent the Rain

(c) Israel Triumphed

(d) A servant girl killed Sisera

(e) And in the end—Barak ended up in the hall of fame of faith anyway—(Heb 11:32-34)

Applications

We need men who will step up to the challenge of our evil time.

We need men who will preach like the prophets of old

We need men who will back up the preachers—(no “High Noon” moments!)

We need men willing to sacrifice time and leisure to become thoroughly grounded in the Word of God.

We need men who will pray

We need men who will look evil in the eye and use the whole armor of God

God, Give us men!
