I was not sure if I should post this in the books and publicatisons section or here, but this is geared to a rather specific group- those involved in puplit ministry.

What books on sermon preperation, and preaching have you enjoyed.

    Here are some of mine:

Preaching and Preachers- D. Martyn Lloyd Jones

The Art of Preaching OT Narrative- Steven Matthewson

    Preaching with Passion- Alex Montoya

Preaching that Changes Lives- Michael Faberez

Using Illustrations to preach with Power- Paul Chapell

    NT Exposition- Liefield

    Two classics:
Spurgeons Lectures to my Students and Brodasus' Preperation and Delivery of Sermons.

    Annointed Expository Preaching - Olford

Lecture to my students - Spurgeon

Teaching on Preaching - Jack Hyles

In the Outlook (The Magazine of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary)-Fall Edition 2005
In it there is a good article entitled "Expository Preaching our mandate & Mission"

It s not a book But Dr. David Allen preached a good message at the pastors conferenece in Jacksonville Fl (FBC Jacksonville) this year on expository preaching. It can be ordered by call the churchs audio ministry. Well worth the effort.

Between Two Worlds by John Stott (Practical yet inspiring)

Christ-Centered Preaching by Bryan Chappel (Wrestles with the question of making Christ the focus of every sermon)

Power in the Pulpit by Jerry Vines (Overall treatment from a master preacher)

Preaching that Changes Lives by Michael Fabarez (Excellent on contemporary preaching)

Pulpit Speech and Preaching with Purpose by Jay Adams (Very practical)

Speaking God's Words by Peter Adam (Excellent on the "why" we preach)

Modern Preacher and the Ancient Text by Sidney Griedanus (Excellent on preaching the various text genres faithfully)

A Beginner's Guide to Expository Preaching by Stephen McQuoid (Excellent first book)

Preaching the Whole Bible as Christian Scripture by Graeme Goldsworthy (Another good one on preaching Christ from all of Scripture faithfully)

    TomVols,

I agree that John A. Broadus' volume "A Treatise on the Preparation and Delivery of Sermons" is one of the best volumes in American preaching history and application?

Do you have any idea why it was so good even until today (and I agree with your assessment that the fisrt three are the best!)? It was built on the classic Rhetoric of Aristotle, Augustine, Cicicro, Quintillian, etc.

I just happen to be in the middle of a writing project where I am the co-editor of a volume of Broadus' lasting legacy from the many vantage points of his life.

I would be glad to talk to anyone online, or offline, or PM about Broadus. Let me know.

    sdg!

I have only read one book about preaching and preparation, but I thought it was really good: Steps to the Sermon by Al Fasol.

I might have to check some of these others out sometime when I get time, though.
