What did you sing in church Sunday morning?

I attended both the Japanese and the English services at JBC this morning. In the Japanese service the congregational songs were

Chikarano Shuo (Lobe den Herren, den mächtigen König der Erde)
Jujikano Chini (I Hear Thy Welcome Voice)(two verses before Communion, two more after)
an anonymous doxology
Draw Nigh to God (the Japanese title escapes me)
Ametsuchi Kozorite (a doxology)

and in the English service

Grace Greater Than Our Sin (two verses)
Lift Him Up
Change My Heart, O God
More Love to Thee, O Christ (two verses)
Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow
Just a Closer Walk with Thee (two verses before Communion, two more after)

This evening at Fremont Baptist we sang

ummm...I can't remember...DOH! Oh well, I guess that means there was nothing too controversial Nothing that could have been about cats in any of it

I remember at arvo jam session we did Bullock's Blessing Honour, Kendrick's Amazing love (My Lord, what love is this), the Hills' Jesus Lover Of My Soul (not Wesley's )...

Oh hang on, on thinking a bit harder about morning service we had He Is Lord, Garment Of Praise, one of Kendrick's things that I still can't remember anything about...Josiah Conder's Thou Art The Everlasting Word and another hymn in the service.

I think I need a memory upgrade

After a couple of hours of headache last night trying to remember what that Kendrick song was, today I wake up and remember it was The Price Is Paid.

Now if I could just remember the rest of the songs we had...

My good friend and I sang a rompin' version of "There's a New Name Written Down in Glory" for the special music. We have a special tune every now and then.

But the congregation ? I'm drawing a blank, but it was probably a combination of Fannie Crosby and Isaac Watts tunes.

 

Went to my childhood church, University Baptist Church of Seattle, to present my fiancée to my old Sunday School teachers, such of them as remain. My brother Alan went with us, first time he'd been there since 1968.

The organ prelude was an arrangement of "Hanover" by Thimon

The opening hymn was Natalie Sleeth's "In the Bulb There Is a Flower" (click), which I had never sung before (I'd seen it in the hymnal, and heard it as a duet for special music once, I think)

The response to the Prayers of the Community was a guitar-accompanied rendition of Julie Gold's "From a Distance" (click)

The first lesson was Psalm 17:1-9 & 15 with congregational Antiphon as given in the New Century Hymnal

The hymn preceding the sermon (new to me, but to good old "Holy Manna") was "Jacob wrestling" by (© 1991) Thomas A. Jackson:

The offertory (organ) was a variation on "Cleansing Fountain" by Martin

The closing hymn was "How Firm a Foundation" in the New Century updated text (5 verses)

The organ postlude was "Festal Flourish" by Gordon Jacobs
