I received this quote, obviously from someone of the Pentecostal persuasion who didn't like the scripture I gave them:

“I dont use all the scripture, because I exhort, and I know the scripture, and can sit, and look up all the quotes in the world, but God sometimes wants us to share what He has taught us. Quoting the bible, will be done the devil in the end days. Will come in knowing everything. Just think how much that satan will know ,and people will get surprised. A big one! Hmmmmmm, food for thought.”

I find a lot of problems with this thinking. When I think about what the Bible says to me, “that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable and perfect will of God.” “Be a good workman, rightly dividing,” “Put on the whole armour of God” And then there’s Proverbs, “how long will ye simple ones love simplicity” and many many other words about being prepared, and “I will never leave you nor forsake you”

Although we have the example of Satan telling Jesus to jump off the mountain, He didn’t, and I realize we aren’t Jesus, but He is with us. I certainly see both sides in trying to out quote the Devil, but shouldn’t we be prepared with the Words of truth in our hearts and search diligently for them. I know scripture can be twisted, but if your taughts are blinded in this fear because of what you've been taught by others isn't that also food for thought? Any thoughts?

Christ said, "Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled."

If we truly seek the will of God, God will guide us according to His will.

No one in the entire bible quoted scripture more than Jesus Christ, and Christ used scripture to rebuke Satan.

To say we "avoid scripture" because Satan can use it is a message given by Satan. I'm sure he would love for us all to throw out our bibles, lest his lies be revealed.

One last thought - if you actually USE your bible - looking at scripture in context, praying over scripture - no one, especially not Satan, can misguide you with it.

Those who are "misguided" by false prophets are those who never check their own bible to see if the scripture is quoted correctly, or never read the surrounding passages to see if it is taken in context. The way to fight being mislead by others seeming to use scripture is to really KNOW the scriptures.

God gave us Scripture so we, like the Bereans, would have a plumb line against which to check any other teaching, or any feelings we might have, or any 'intellect' we might be subject to, or any spiritual communications we might feel we are receiving.

So it's not a matter of out-quoting anyone. It's a matter of knowing Scripture well enough to be able to know if something someone says is going against it.

The key to the whole thing is not what others have taught you, but what the Bible itself says, and that is something you can only know if you read it over and over and over again. Memorizing verses just won't do. You need to know the Bible as a whole very well. Then you are well-equipped biblically.

The other half is your personal relationship with God. And that is a matter of faith and prayer.

No one can do any of these things for you. But without them you can be easily deceived by 'almost true' teachings. I think it was C.S. Lewis who mentioned that the best lie is something like 95% truth.

Just a thought I had when reading your post Benjamin....
I was thinking not only when satan quoted scripture when tempting Jesus, but also back when Eve was being tempted in the garden. I don't know if its just me....but when satan quotes the Word of God it seems to sound negative or take on a negative position towards God. But when reading the same scripture where its God inspired it seems positive.

Good thoughts, and I feel that persons concerns about Satan lying to them and like them feel I can trust what God has shown me, but where I really differ is that I feel I can’t trust what man has shown me without checking it out for myself in God’s Word and I’m leery about the systems and feel I can always trust what scripture shows me and can’t get enough of that. I have trouble resting on the middle ground and finding peace, seems like the Comforter is working me awful hard and the more I'm filled the hungrier I get.

Amen to all, satan is the father of lies, he wants to destroy everything God stands for. I'm going to give you a shortened version of my testimony.

In 1987 after I was disabled satan spoke to me and told me I was no good and should kill myself.
I prayed like this"satan in the name of the Lord Jesus get behind me" and he did. satan is powerful, but he can't stand up the name of the Lord. I've also said this before and I always will: "satan knows his time is short, he is ramping up his attacks he wants to take as many as he can" satan also knows he is defeated, but his ego wont let him admit it".

As children of God we are saved by the blood of Jesus. satan can try to harm us with his lies. What happened in the Garden of Eden?, the evil one lied to Eve.

Put on the full armor of God, stay in the Word, pray, seek Jesus, have fellowship with other Christians, and love your neighbors(this is a hard one for me), some don't like this, but I read communtaries they help me to understand certain scripture.

    God Bless.
