What do you believe?

I posted this, well I tried to post it, and that thread was closed before I was finished. What are your beliefs??


Here are mine:

I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
I believe that the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are one.
I believe that Jesus came and fulfilled the will of the Father when He took the sin of the whole world upon Himself, and nailed them to the cross, therefore, condemning sin in the flesh.
I believe that Jesus arose that third day, was ascended back to the Father, is now seated on His right hand, and is our advocate to the Father whenever we stumble.
I believe that He is coming again, and will seperate the Sheep from the goats, and to take us home, and cast the goats in the lake of fire.
I believe that He saved my soul, and that I am His!!


Please do not ask me for scriptural proof. You know where they are at, as well as I. These should be the basic beliefs for all CHRISTians. If you have these down pat, everything is A O K.

What does it mean that "Jesus Christ is the Son of God"??? I ask not b/c I doubt your belief it its essential character but wonder if we understand the likelihood of what it means and refers back to in the OT.

When you say that the Father, Son, and Spirit are one, are you saying that they are all the same person???

Also, what home is Jesus taking us to??? Some metaphysical realm titled "heaven" where we have no physical body? Or is our future destination and the goal of the Bible here on the new heavens and new earth in the New Jerusalem with a new body? Just a clarification.

To say Jesus "was ascended" is to say he passively ascended. This could mean that it was against his will or desire. Is that what you meant?

I'm being a butt b/c these kind of confessional statements need to be as precise as possible. Words have meaning, and when we are trying to clarify our beliefs, we need say exactly what we mean to remove ambiguity and questions.

BTW... your beliefs said nothing about the Bible, faith, repentance, the gospel, the kingdom (Jesus central message), and things like that. These seem to be important things to mention.

First I would say it depends on what you mean by those things. Also a person can believe all that and still not be saved so I would not say everything is OK in their life just based on that list. While I certainly believe every believer should hold to what you wrote None of those things point to salvation in themselves separately or collectively.

There was a time in my own life where I had absolutely no doubt about anything in the bible and still was not saved. You could have set me down and asked me everyone of those question with scriptural reference and I would have said absolutely I believe those things. In fact I could even argue that they were true with absolutely no doubt in my mind. I could have passed any lie detector test in believing the bible. I absolutely knew it was true yet I was lost. I knew Jesus was Lord and would say it, but I was still lost. The only exception was I knew I was lost in the mist of my belief.

Let me stress this. Just because we believe we are saved does not mean we are. Matt 7. Many will say Lord, Lord. The bible sets down how to know in 1 John and if we do not know based on what it says then we are self deceived in the worst way. We never want to base our assurance solely on what we believe, but on what God says follows those who believe in accordance with what we believe.

Some of my 'essentials" of the Christian Faith would include:
God is a Truine being, three in one Father/Son/Spirit
Bible is ONLY revelation from God to Us today, fully inerrant/infallible/inpired from God
The Cross of Christ, atonement work there, means on our salvation/grace
faith in Jesus alone, by Grace alone
Water baptism by Immersion believers only/Communion to professing saints
Bodily/physical resurrection of Christ
Seconding Coming to be literal, and we will be glorified at that time
Holy Spirt indwells all saints, we can choose to befilled daily
Spiritual Gifts given by God, to be used unto His glory and work

Just a sampling of what I believe!

The bible is my sole and final authority. The Gospel is God's power to save the believer(Romans 1:16). Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen(Hebrews 1:1). Faith is also a gift of God. Repentence is a requirement for salvation, for without it, you can not obtain it(2 Cor. 7:10).

Well, I agree with what you posted her Brother. But, in our lost days, we had a "head knowledge" of what we believed, and not a "heart knowledge". It is with the heart that man believes unto righteousness. It was when our "knowledge" went south-travelling from our head to our heart, that we truly believe His written Word.

Rev. 21-22 doesn't say heaven is our home. It speaks of a new heaven and earth and we live in the New Jerusalem. Your views sounds more like Plato than the Bible.

Head knowledge by itself leads you to hell. Heart knowledge leads you to the throne of Grace. No amount of head knowledge will ever save you. That is my point.

I certainly agree that believing the facts does not save although it is necessary to believe them other wise no one would call on Him. If by heart knowledge you mean turning to God (repentance) to apply what we believe then that is fine.

Bingo. God shows us what we must do in order to be saved. This does not come from our head knowledge, but rather our heart knowledge.

Alright but a person can have the heart knowledge you mention and still not be saved. Like I said I had it. There was a time prior to being saved I knew what I must do and I simply would not do it. Until we exercise what we know must be done there is no salvation.

Correct. That's what I have been driving at. Sorry about the muddy water I caused. I knew I was lost by God revealing that to me. He then began dealing with my heart(my soul), and showing me what I must do in order to be saved.
