Yes, the "dis' was indeed meant to be there. While I certainly assume that most of us on this board like and enjoy Christmas-- or at least some of the things about it, like decor, visits, giving, music...-- there are, I think, inevitably some qualities about it that we don't care for. This is not primarily about doctrinal arguments concerning the holiday, although it's hard to ask the basic question here and exclude that part. But this is really about point and counter point; for example, there may be cheer, but is there also sadness?... we may like to give and make people happy, but is that really worth the expense or debt? For kids, is the question really "naughty or nice," or 'haughty and price?'

The choice of answers will overlap, but think of your own answers first, then choose the closest to those in the poll choices.

It's the wrong time of the year, wrong date.

Mostly it is the really stupid comments by people who heard some ignorant preacher ranting against Christmas with the "it's a Catholic invention" or "Christ wasn't born in December" and just pass it on as if there was any small bit of truth to it.

    Ignorance gives me gas! :D

Gift shopping - Not the money but figuring out what someone else wants since they don't NEED anything.
Being told that I am not allowed to be less than excited about the whole season.
    etc . . . . . . .

I love the true meaning of Christmas and time spent with family.

I wish we had a week's holiday BEFORE Christmas to be able to get everything done but when you work for a church, there's no way that's happening!! I also wish I could just decide to skip church on Christmas Eve like so many do. Yeah - I have stuff to do too but I'm there! ;)

Nothing. I don't like the hectic pace and the commercialism, but that isn't Christmas for I remember when it wasn't that way. I am not that old, but I remember Christmas being centered on Christ and the Incarnation, but also on Santa and decorations and family. For me Christmas was associated with church. What has happened IMHO is the Church became legalistic and left such trivial pursuits to the secular world. I remember the pastor being "Santa" for little children, Sunday school classes having "dirty Santa" gifts, link in's on Halloween, and picnics with egg hunts on Easter. I liked Christmas before all of the legalistic "piously politically correct" stuff caused my local church to leave it to the heathen. So I still like Christmas....just not what many have done with it.

I find it sad amongst many of my friends who do the whole Christmas thing but minus the birthday child.....

I wish everybody had family and friends to share it with. I don't like that there are so many people who spend it alone and sad. I also don't like how commercialize Christmas has become. Everybody spends where to much money and the true meaning of Christmas gets lots in all the hustle and bustle.
