What do you think about holy laughter?

It's part of the "Toronto Blessing" and it's nonsense. Hysteria is not of the Lord. The Lord does give laughter; He also brings tears.

But how do you know what God would do and what not? This means that you have to know Him and His thoughts. Can you really say that you know exactly what God would do?
Think about this for a moment. Did Jesus not also do "weird" things? Imagine the story where Jesus spit on the ground and put mudd on the eyes of the blind man was not in the bible and then today somebody would do just that do you not think that there would be christians which would say that God would never do such a thing? I think there would.
But how do we want to know what God does and what not?
For example I have once heard a charismatic pastor tell a story where he met a man who had something wrong with him and he stood before him and then he said the Holy Spirit told him to punch him in the stomach. First of all he didn't dare but then he punched him and the man flew a few feet through the air and was touched or healed by God.
But other christians said that the Holy Spirit would never tell somebody to punch somebody. But how do we know what the Holy Spirit would do and what not? Is this even possible?

Sir, Mr. xdisciplex, you will never understand God by dabbling in foolish questions. This Toronto blessing is pure nonsense. It is brain activity, not Godly joy. It is, sir, impossible for a Christian to blaspheme the Holy Spirit. Heresy, yes, blasphemy, no. You must look to God for guidance. I fear you are simply stumbling around in a fog of your own making. Where do you live? Are you of age? Are your parents followers of Christ?

X, how old are you? How long have you been a christian? Are your parents christians? were you raised in church? do you regularly attend church now? Do you attend bible studies with others who are more knowledgable then yourself?

I have personally seen the holy laughter and was very disturbed by it. It doesnt line up with the Word.

the Holy Spirit doesnt cause you to act like an idiot.


and besides that, New Agers do Holy Laughter through Channeling... they claim the spirits are doing it through them when they are possessed. I have seen it.

Everything the Holy Spirit does points to Christ. I find it a little much that punching someone in the stomach would point them to Christ. Also, I wouldn't trust anyone who says the Holy Spirit told them something. I've been in a Pentecostal church where a woman claimed she was taken away in spirit to the throne room of God, where she was shown evil spirits to pray against. Oddly enough, after apparently being in God's very presence, she was transported back to her body, to tell the church which evil demons to pray against. Then she began to hoot and holler and pray in tounges, the whole service degenerated into most of the congregation, chanting and rolling on the floor and babbling like pagans. It's just bogus , xd, my friend. If God spoke verbally to anyone now, they would echo Job when he said "I abhore myself, and repent in dust and ashes." Nowadays God speaks to us through His Word. Sola Scriptura, scripture alone. Don't fall into the pentecostal craze. Aside from the papists, that's the biggest error going around. God does very great things, God blesses His people, beyond our understanding. Search the Scriptures, and see if what the Pentecostals do lines up with the Holy Writ. May God bless you with all understanding of the fullness of His Word.

I have experienced Holy Laughter. It as at a womens Bible class. There were about 10 to12 ladies there. I was and had been having a very difficult time in my life that had been going on for many months. I was hanging on to Jesus with my fingernails. One day we broke off into groups of 2 or 3. The leader happen to be in my group. They were praying for me and I was crying and still hanging on to Jesus. My leader prayed that I would receive Holy Laughter. All of a sudden, from the pit of my stomach, something was coming up and I could NOT stop it. I really tried to hold it down, since I didn't know what was happening. I could NOT HOLD it down. I started laughing and could not stop. It felt sooo good, but it would not stop. I was not rolling on the floor or anything like that. Soon the person next to me was laughing and so on, until everyone was laughing. It was so wonderful and refreshing to laugh, after so much heartache. We laughed for about 5 minutes and then one by one it died down. I felt as if Christ had picked me up and gave me the biggest hug, it was glorious! We gave all the praise and glory to Christ.

I do not believe in some of the churches on TV with the big production, but I do know that it is real and it does edify Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit is real and does answer prayer!

I know some will say yeah, right. But I KNOW what happened and it was very real and all I can say a big "thank you Jesus" for that experience. :godisgood:

That's the problem. Everybody has a different opinion.

But I am sure if the story of Jesus putting a mixture of spit and mudd was not in the bible and a minister would do this today the conservatives would be screaming from their rooftops that this is not God and that God would never do this. I am absolutely convinced of this. :laugh:

How do you know? If something is from God, let's say a movement or a miracle working or something like this and you oppose it and fight against this movement because you say it's not from God then you are fighting against God and this could be blaspheming the Holy Spirit. I have once heard a sermon where a christian got a lot of resistance from within the church, from conservative churchmen and then he said that God spoke to him and told him that these men are not fighting him (the man) but Him (God) and that there will be no mercy for them! Very scary....

How long have you been a christian? Are your parents christians? were you raised in church? do you regularly attend church now? Do you attend bible studies with others who are more knowledgable then yourself?

house meeting with charismatics. i dont really learn much there but since it's all i have i just go there. the people are also nice but i dont learn much there and the focus also isn't on learning. they spend more time with worshipping and such things.

Experience is not scripture. And when experience takes presedence over scrupture there is a problem. Holy laughter is not biblical, no matter anyones experience. Scripture must be our authority, never, ever expereince.

XdX, learning is a part of worshipping, and if they are neglecting learning then you need a new place to gather with other christians. They are looking for an experience not doctrine and God. You will not, as you have just told me, grow there, grow in knowledge, spiritual growth. They are causing you confusion, as we can see in your topics you post here.
You need to learn to do good bible study to help you find your answers, then you confirm them with other more knowledgeable christians. Five years as a christian is long enough for you to have learned some of the stuff you ask here, in the right circumstances, which it appears you are not in.
Are there no christian churches near you?

There is a protestant church (Landeskirche, this means that the state runs it) which was once run by a pastor who I also knew.
The pastor left and now it is run by a woman. I don't go there. Even when the pastor was still there it was dead. There were only very few, old people.
There is a catholic church and a SDA church as far as I know and a baptist one. I have been there 2 times and I didn't really like it. I need a church were I feel comfortable but I don't feel comfortable there. I also don't really want a baptist church. I'm not a baptist and I don't think I agree with all of the baptist theology. For me it's much more important that I find a church where I feel comfortable and where I don't feel uncomfortable all the time. These things are important to me. And I also would like a church with a nice pastor who knows me and who I can also ask things if I want to. But where is such a church? I don't know if it exists in my area. In the next town are more churches but they are too complicated to reach without a car. You can do this once in a while but doing this every week is too much. Getting there takes at least 90 minutes. I don't think this makes sense. I needed a church which is in my area and which is easy to reach otherwise it makes no sense.

Read through the New Testament (twice), then read the Old Testament (once), Re-read the New Testament, then start in Genesis.

That would be a good start.

Neither is dancing in the streets naked! :wavey: I believe my Lord did what I needed at the moment. I praise His Holy Name for it!
